Hey folks. Peak oil has been in the far back of my mind for quite a while but ever since I started "investing in disaster" (playing short ETFs and commodities on the stock market back in 2006 when I still had some savings) I've been thinking about it more. Started reading up a month or two back. Now here I am.
I live in an urban setting and will not be giving that up (and happen to think it's going to be one of the more livable ones in the future for a number of reasons) and I'm a renter, and I've just started to prepare. So I have got a LOT to do. Basically right now I have only the bare minimum OH SH-- food and water, 15 gallons of water and 101,000 calories of somewhat balanced food (well, okay, 15,000 calories is from vodka!

) plus basic personal protection equipment and supplies. My problem is storage space, I do have some under my building but that's subject to thieves so things would need to be sealed in nondescript containers. Also being in an urban area I would be much more comfortable having some bugout gear which I'm lacking currently.
My current preparations include figuring out how to store more food (particularly protein as I do not eat anything with legs or wings) and getting my behind out of debt which I'm currently doing pretty well at.
Hopefully I'm not getting started too late!
