Welcome fellow Aussy. [smilie=adios.gif] A lot of the information is USA-centric, but there's a lot that's still relevant for us. And it's always a good idea to have some idea of what's happening in other places.
Kind regards, Katkinkate

Hello From California

I have been lurking for over a year now. This site is very informative. I bought a Prius after seeing Crude Awakening and reading these boards.

Welcome! Are you a former heavyweight boxer?

My former girlfriend's mother, who lives in the bay area, bought a Prius not long ago. She reports that she can fit quite a bit of firewood in it...

Welcome, g4man, to PO.com. Since you've been lurking for quite some time, you should have a pretty good idea how things work.

... the proper response after learning about PO, is to buy a bicycle-- not a Prius.

Some people think the proper response after learning about PO is to slap on a loin cloth and run into the woods with a spear. That's not necessarily the smartest approach.

   Wiping tears from my eyes. . .But hey, the dashboard of the prius will make a great food dehydrator in 4 years when the battery pack needs replacing and it is unaffordable or unavailable.

I know someone who also just bought a Prius after watching the same movie - do you happen to live in San Diego :-)?

If so, I think it would be a good idea to have some food supplies stored (and water)....

Priuses are Silicon Valley bling. If U ever are lucky enough to land a job somewhere else, they'll be wanting U in a different ride. Maybe even a hybrid which isn't out yet. Personally waiting for the Octipus hybrid.

Hello everybody!
I feel like I'm among friends so y'all can call me Chris. I'm brand new to the site, just signed on tonight, and thought I'd let you know I'm here and say hello.
I'm from GA, not as educated as some of you folks obviously are, but as concerned about our environment -especially this gas crunch - as anybody. I hope I can learn from you and take some steps that I hadn't taken before to protect myself and my family.
My husband and I live in a small apartment, all the children grown and on their own. We don't have much but are willing to do whatever we can to help so if anyone has any advice that would give us some idea about what we can do, I'd be pleased to hear it. Thanks for having me. I'll be back!

welcome Chris!

Welcome, Chris. Glad to have you here. I recommend you spend some time reading over in the Planning for the Future forum. There's a lot of good folks there - city dwellers and country dwellers and everywhere in between - who are talking about what practical steps they are taking to help prepare for challenging times ahead. You might get some good ideas. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask!

Welcome, ChrisK!

Peak oil is a huge subject, but endlessly fascinating.

We all have a slightly different view of it, but the different viewpoints on this forum give you a good picture of it.

Other websites that are good are The Oil Drum, Wolf at the Door, and of course Life After the Oil Crash.

Talk to your neighbors and friends. Help them to prepare.

We're living in interesting times.

Welcome, Chris, to PO.com. Initially, reading the various forums (and, the archives as you have time), will help you and your husband prepare for the near future.
Decide what you need to do, and be open to making adjustments in your plans.
And, each time you get depressed, visit the [s]rubber room[/s] Psychology forum as well! :)
Feel free to ask questions as the need arises.

Hello from Los Angeles

Unread postby drakedaggers » Sun 08 Jun 2008, 16:19:40

hello to all

This website is a great resource and a fantastic gathering of information on peak oil and related topics thanks to everyone that contributes to discussions on here and the news stories gathered.
I have been visiting this site almost daily for over 2 years. I have been aware of peak oil probably about 3 years when gasoline was in the low 2's and oil under 60 if not 50.

I have decided to start posting and becoming more active because I feel I definitely have something to contribute to the discussion on here.

I am a male in my early 20's, just graduated college and I am trying to navigate this dangerous big bad world of post-peak oil. Trying to balance those thoughts and concerns with trying to find my calling in life and building my social life/meeting women
