Hello, i´m a regular forum reader since 2006, and now i decided register in the forums and become an active member .

the first time that i read about peak oil was in a web 3 years ago and is curious how the predicted things are true now.

Recently , here in spain, with the raising of fuel price, shortages in food and strikes, could be considered the first real trial for a peak oil scenario for the future.

thanks

Welcome Hartmann & Seazar,

Please, fill us in on how things are going in Spain. From the housing market & credit crisis to truckers strikes & empty grocery store shelves.

Have you seen these so far as a real problem or just a minor inconvenience?

Enquiring minds want to know :)

Welcome!

There's lots to read and learn here, check out the archives when you have a chance. Also look at the Planning for the Future forum for great and informative discussions of what we're doing to offset the effects of peak oil.

Hartmann,

de donde eres? Yo me acabo de apuntar tambien.

Hartmann,

Where are you from in Spain? Funny, dont think there are much Spaniards giving thought to this issue ( they are generally more concerned to the big issue of the Eurocup soccer competition where Spain is faring so well until now) YET we both joined the same day...

I ve recently been storing food for months and giving though to all this mess....

If you are anywhere close my area we might join to talk. Aware and ready communities have to be formed somehow.... that might be plan A in my book....

I am a chef for an upscale dining establishment that caters to the wealthy and near wealthy from Chicago. We are about an hour east from the Windy City.

An hour east of where I lived on the North Side of Chicago was Gary, IN! I can't say as I recall any Michelin rated restaurants there, but I was just passing through on 94. You're probably not in Gary though...

Welcome! Look around. Kick the tires. Figure out what you agree with and what you don't. There are lots of helpful people here. There are also some unhelpful ones - just like any other community. Have fun.

Welcome, Rich.
Please spend some time browsing through the forums and get your feet wet, so to speak. There are lots of knowledgable folks here who will be happy to answer any questions you might have (and some you might not have! :))

And be sure to chime in and post yourself. We all learn from each other.

Welcome again,
Kathy

Greetings, Chef_Rich

Welcome.

This ability to understand food preparation, temperature control, nutrition, and make things taste good are all extremely useful.

The high end chefs are also used to making one-of-a-kind items, rather than mass production.

I have a lot of respect for people with this skill.

Welcome Matt S! This is the place to discuss peak oil and it's many ramifications.

We have been talking about it for years.

Some of us are even doing things to prepare for it.

Are you in Genesee NY?

Hello from the nut house!

Unread postby Buggy » Mon 23 Jun 2008, 09:36:12

Wow! I was searching for something else online and accidentally discovered Peak Oil. After going through the all the mouning stages, I have entered the "he's a nut" stage. People really don't get this! Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting help on what to do.

First of all welcome, please feel free to look around. I am of the philosophy that the best cure for everyone of the stages is to go out and do some thing so don't neglect the Planning for the future thread.
And if you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask.

Oh and if you think you are from a nut house... just wait until you spend some time around here. You just left the nut house and entered the big box nut super-store.

Almonds are in aisle three :)

My family thought I was a looney about a month back when I said were going into a second depression.
Now they don't think I'm so nutty. =]

So, it's kind of like a super sized nut house? I should fit right in. I got the same looks about the second depression thing from my family. And this was before I discovered peak oil. I of course had to explain how it would be different as the pendulum never swings back to the same place. Now I have some serious 'splaining to do!

I hadn't discovered PO either and I stated we wouldn't be able to get out so easily.

Prep Quick...

As awareness increases the amount of items available will be dramatically reduced.

Then again, buying quick could cause shortages and panic..

I would really hate to be one waking up to peak oil right now.. It took me almost 5 years to come to terms with what peak oil is an it's ramifications, and even now it can catch me off-guard. To have all those emotions coupled with the fact they are unravelling as we speak would be a mental overload.

Try to stay calm, Try to stay ahead of the curve, panicing will do nothing but waste time.

Then again I'm a nut and prefer it that way.. Allows me to grow :)
