Well...obviously the History Channel has taken a page from the Fox News play book. Sensationalistic lies are apparently very good for selling advertising time.

Of a thousand burning bridges
Sifting through the ashes every day
What we thought would never end
Now is nothing more than a memory
The way things were before
I lost my way" - OCMS

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he FBI has narrowed its focus to "about four" suspects in the 6 1/2-year investigation of the deadly anthrax attacks of 2001, and at least three of those suspects are linked to the Army’s bioweapons research facility at Fort Detrick in Maryland
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A')mong the pool of suspects are three scientists — a former deputy commander, a leading anthrax scientist and a microbiologist — linked to the research facility, known as USAMRIID.

The History Channel has a new series: "Life After People: The Series", which I believe starts about 21 Apr.

Are you sure it's new? I seem to remember seeing something just like that.

I am not all that sure that it is new, except that this is going to be a series, not the one hour program. As soon as I get time, I'll check out their website (unless someone else has a few mintues to do so) and see what's what.

Apparently it is a new series, maybe based on the original special? I guess they'll expand on the themes in the documentary.

I watched a half dozen of them before my cable was disconnected but it was more out of boredom than anything else. Mildly entertaining but not very realistic IMO.

The biggest problem with Life After People is that they leave absolutely no room for the numerous exceptions that occur as a city degrades. Sometimes conditions prevail that actually preserve the 3 and four story structures for a very long time. I find the show interesting in the conclusions it reaches by scientific hypothesis, but the degradation they show is far too uniform and universal IMO.

Two things about the series bugged me, first off they completely ignored the long term effects of all the GHG emissions which have already taken place and their effects even if no more were emitted.

Secondly the alarmism about nuclear power plants, specifically stating in certain terms that the cooling pools would turn to steam and break open the pool buildings. First off, even if the passive systems didn't work at all the pools would act more like a puddle in direct sunlight than a boiler, the water that got too hot would form vapor in the air, not steam. Secondly, the pressure from this vapor would be pretty low, not nearly the kind of force you would need to tear open the buildings as portrayed. Thirdly, even if their scenario were 100% feasible the radiation escaping with the steam would be very low level.
