Life After People...on tonite

Well... Once the oil is dried up in about 100 years? Once the nukes are finally launched? Global warming/Global cooling?

Life After People

Some of us see this as a very good possibility. The right viral outbreak, and i think you could wipe out a good chunk of the population.

Heh. The ad intones "WELCOME TO EARTH: POPULATION 0" Then just below the sub heading is entitled "Could You Survive?"

Well if the population is zero then no...no I guess I couldn't.

I believe this show intends to examine what would happen to the artificial landscape we have created if humans simply disappeared overnight.

Over a period of 10-20 years we only have one urban area that I can think of that tells us what to expect: Pripyat, Ukraine, abandoned following the Chernobyl disaster. Many structures have already begun to decay and a couple of building collapses have already occurred.

What structures at which locations last the longest: assuming no catastrophic loss (earthquake, hurricane, tornado, etc.). More precipitation and greater temperature swings would shorten the lifespan. So would heavier rainfall, due to mold, weathering, more plant growth, etc. So Semi-arid climates outside of coastal, tornado, and earthquake areas would maintain structure the longest.

Wooden structures probably last 100 years
Steel & concrete skyscrapers: 500-1000?..really unsure here.
Stone monuments probably last the longest. The Pyramids Might survive the longest. Due to size, stone construction, and arid climate. Probably many thousands of years if no major climate shifts in the area occur.

Ultimately erosion and geological active destroy almost all evidence. Dont know if anything would indicate we were technologically advanced say 100 million years from now if our species were able to come back and examine the planet at that time. Many someone else has a better idea on that.

That's exactly what I told someone last week.

I bet someone is working on it right now. From the timelapses I have seen, enthusiasts would consider such a thing the ideal project.

Maybe it's out of context but in the preview there is a quick shot of a bear coming out of a subway, and the light is on! That's one heck of a light bulb, not to mention where the power is coming from. 8O

GOod day from Pheba, from the farm:
I would just love to see this. I do not get cable. If somebody can record it for me I would deeply appreciate it and would pay for shipping, etc.
I believe this film may have come from a book. "The World Without Us" copyright 2007 by Alan Weisman. I have the book, and could not put it down.
The chapters are:
A Lingering Scent of Eden
Unbuilding Our HOme
The City Without Us
The World Just Before Us
The Lost Menagerie
The African paradox
What Falls Apart
What Lasts
Polymers Are Forever
The Petro Patch
The World Without Farms
The Fate of Ancient and Modern Wonders of the World
The World Without War
Wings Without Us
Hot LEgacy
Our Geologic Record
Where Do WE go From Here
Art Beyond Us
The Sea Cradle.

I reccomend this book. Please please somebody record this for me.
Pheba.
