This "don't prepare" argument is just stupid. Follow the argument to extreme to see just how stupid a philosophy it is. Why save for anything? Why worry about retirement? Why buy a life insurance policy just for others to have? Why have a will? Why leave your house, you might get robbed? On and on.

Luck will often save you enough, if your courage holds out.

Garden seeds (canned, Mountain View), motor oil, gear oil, sulfa & tetracycline (vet supplies), fertilizer, lime, license for the wood-hauling trailer I built, parts for the '83 VW Rabbit. I could go on, but that will likely use it up. OH! yeah. FOOD!!! Thanks Seahorse.

The number was revised to $600 today. Like I said. There were no $1600 checks.

I might use part of it to rent a backhoe to dig my pond.

I might buy more food and seeds, that's always useful.

We'll be going out to CA one last time to see the grandparents, we'll probably spend some of it then.

We've already decided to give half the $300/kid to our kids to spend as they like.

What to do? Since I haven't won the Lottery yet (really hard to do when you don't buy tickets! lol) so we can't buy a farm, we'll have to make our stand here, and I think that we might build a bigger fence around the yard (currently only have a 4 ft high hurricane fence)...

Ferret, There's absolutely no need to do that, provided you put a couple of heads on spikes at the gate. :)

Well it makes me sick to think they are just going to print money and send it out,, but I'll take it.

Imagine how bad this looks from the outside

"they are so screwed in America,, they are sending out free money.

This is a RED ALERT for me. It reafferms everything I have done so far, and motivated me to continue. Most sheeple will go out spend it and not think twice about whats really going on.. But not my problem

I will probably save a litte

Buy a few tires for my motorcycle

Buy a little more silver, if prices hold

Buy a big bag of weed

Granny's cutting in on the action (emphasis mine):

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '
')Senate Democrats Plan Add-Ons to $150 Billion Economic Stimulus Package

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Senate Democrats will move to add to a $150 billion economic stimulus package rebates for senior citizens living off Social Security and an extension of unemployment benefits, setting up a clash with the White House and House leaders who are pushing a narrower package.
...
Adding rebates for senior citizens living solely off Social Security checks -- who are ineligible under the plan hatched by House leaders and the White House -- would likely mean doling out smaller rebates overall, shrinking the size of the payments from $600 to $500, according to aides familiar with the emerging proposal.

Stimulus Breakthrough in Congress
Democrats Drop Some Demands to Pass Bipartisan Measure

By Z. BYRON WOLF
Feb. 7, 2008

After Republicans had narrowly blocked a larger, more generous economic stimulus package in a vote that brought the Democratic presidential candidates scurrying to Washington, lawmakers came together Thursday around a stimulus plan hashed out in January between House leaders on both sides of the aisle and President Bush.

Senators are expected to vote later this afternoon on an amendment to add benefits for as many as 21 million seniors and 250,000 disabled veterans to the $146 billion House proposal, at a cost of an extra $9 billion over two years.

The House bill would give rebates of between $600 and $1,200 to taxpayers with maximum incomes of $75,000 for singles and $150,000 for couples. The seniors and veterans living on fixed incomes will get $300 rebate checks with the Senate amendment.

if the objective of the $600 dollar check is spend it (as suggested by congress and signed into law by the president), I'd buy lottery tickets (its free money after all), and suggest everone else do so too.

this is because, by definition the $600 dollar check would be spent in the "business as usual" consumer economy, states would get their cut (because on average 1/3 of the money in the pot goes to the state for programs like education), and someone would be lucky and win the pot.

personally if I did win one of the state lotteries, my plan would be to custom build a gold plated SUV (based on the Cadillac Escalade - I'd only buy american of course) with diamonds glued onto the rims, the vehicle would be used so I cruise around and pick up various high class hookers

http://digg.com/politics/Photos_Of_Elio ... r_s_Hooker

in style. I figure this way all the money would keep flowing in the "business as usual" US consumer economy.

I'm just kinda pissed off I won't have the opportunity to put my fool proof plan into action this year, cause I'm not getting any "free" money (my darn adjusted gross income is over the limits of the "rebate" program).
