There's always someone with bigger guns or a stronger group.

But as for the mother with children...no, I think not. Take a look at areas of the world that are in dire straits presently. The mothers with hungry children seem to be doing rather badly.

The ones that are dangerous are teenagers with nothing to lose, a gun, and a cause.

Pretty much spot on, I would add able bodied men to the list under 40.

Hopefully we can re-organize without regressing into chaos and barbarism.

I am half thinking that I told them so, and half thinking oh my god, it's real, and it's here...

I am trying to decide what to do.

Before this little bout of inflation and this oil price run up it was slow and not too painful. Now it's going down quicker and recession is showing it's face.

We are staring into the maw of that beast, Peak Oil, that we have been warning everybody about. It's here. It's right outside the gates.

We'll get no comfort out of telling people "I told you so". Too late for that. Time to really get ready.

I do something every day to get ready. Every afternoon. I stack wood, get some tool or something.

I am keeping quiet about what I'm doing now. No sense in telling people. It's too late now... It's here...

I know what you mean though. Having been addicted to power tools most my working life I inherited some A grade hand tools all about 40 years old in perfect working order. Surprised myself how beautiful they are and what I'd been missing by not using proper tools.

Yep. All of them. A zillion unforeseen factors and unimagined consequences will overwhelm all the best and most carefully thought-out preparations. Nothing will transpire as anyone has envisioned it will.

The number of variables is so vast it might as well be infinite. There is no way to effectively model for what is coming in the next couple of decades. Those who smugly think they'll be ready for the future are in as deep a state of denial as the most hard-case cornucopian.

We live in a small town of about 9000 people and I have been trying to get people to pay attention for about 5 years. This is no Willets, California. Maine changes very slowly. There are a few people who are peak oil aware, but not many.

I have been talking to people in town government, legislators and my colleagues for years, but not many listened. Now I think that they are getting it. Instead of telling them "I told you so", I think I'll just keep pushing for bus service, farmer's market, insulating programs and things like that. If they bring up the fact that I told them about five years ago, I'll brush it off and keep talking about the importance of insulation or something.

They may be able to hear me now. Maybe...

Personal planning, preparations, and knowledge will not harm your chances in the coming malaise. On the contrary, your chances of things at least going slightly better for you will increase If you know why and have done even minimal preparation for what we all think may be coming.

Chance favors the prepared mind.

I'm not sure if it's even possible to prep for the collapse of industrial civilization.

But I don't think it will matter much for many on this board.

The West, & by that I mean 'merica et al, will have fought many resource wars before our people reach the dog on a spit stage I think.

Learn to do something valuable which does not involve actual fighting.

Like combat computer networking for example... :)

Otherwise, practice digging foxholes & CPR.

You'll need both.
The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

If they want you, that is. There are indications that you think to much, preventing you from being a good servant. Not that your thinking necessarily is very correct, but the very fact that you think is a problem. In order to be a trustworthy servant you should be really stock stupid and not think at ALL.

Manipulative types seem to have a sixth sense to detect thinking processes, and select strongly against such tendencies when hiring people. Pretty successful this far I'd dare to say...

So you're advising people to get with the military industrial complex while their govt rips off foreign countries for their resources? I think most people on this forum would have a problem with that.

Hahaha! Assuming that the military can actually PROVIDE a food bowl that is. My bet is that they wont be able to provide the food, The stupid military resorted to JIT delivery. Just as everybody else.

And THEN what? Something will be eaten and something will indeed eat. Only question is "who"?
