Matt et al, make a valid observation... what's the point in gloating?

I thought the same thing as I made this post.

However... (hehe)

I think there is some utility in voicing our collective frustration at the ambivalence of many... & outright deception of others on this topic. I see this "gleeful" celebration of our "told you so" moment, as an expression of that frustration... an extension or consequence of it.

It is fitting & appropriate that I'm drunk on the heady brew of righteous indignation...

...& beer.

First we need to get the economists out of the way and their "science". Only then can we take the path towards sustainability.
As long as current economic thinking forms the basis on wich societies are organized, it will be impossible to do anything meaningful to mitigate PO.
Watching economists being revealed for the charlatans they are is the only satisfaction I want to get from PO.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('ChefBoyardee', 'T')here is such thing as being a bad winner. People do have limitations in what they believe or accept. Some just are too busy with their own lives and can't really pay attention to serious subjects. It's like mocking others for not believing you while the ship is sinking with you and everyone in it. At that point does it really matter who was right or wrong? Food for thought.

a) bad winner: There is no real joy, in this case, in knowing one was correct in one's predictions. To call those who were right "a bad winner" is just more mudslinging-jealousy.
b) limitations: Reminds me of "The Dumbing of America." The information was/is out there to be found.
c) serious subjects: Are you kidding? Being too shallow is a good thing?
d) mocking: You require those who "got it" to be magnanimous to those who refused to believe? How about those who refused to understand what is happening make an attempt to save their own lives?
e) Yes, it does matter. Having reality validate the reasoning processes of the few will strenghten the foundations of those who choose to remake their lives more in tune with the planet on which we live.

It's cold comfort in saying "I told you so". I think we are all screwed in ways we can't even imagine. When Ghawar rolls over and decline sets in, get ready for an 8% decline in global oil output a few years from now, which will only accelerate when Canterell caves in along with it. The 'transition' will be from oil age to stone age over a few mere decades.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Drifter', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Aaron', 'O')n behalf of all our members here at peakoil.com, ASPO, Colin Campbell, Mat Simmons, Pickens, Savinar, Bakhitari, Whipple, Heinberg & even Ruppert, I'd like to send out a big ole' "we told you so", to Yergin, Lynch the USGS, CERA & all you other peak deniers out there.

In you're face losers.

Where's your $40/bbl oil now?

Man... that felt good.

I have to agree Aaron. Finally we can say this. It does feel pretty good. 8) There really is no way anyone here can deny peak oil any more. It is becoming too obvious. The numbers don't lie. And to all you techno scum peak oil deniers (I mean losers) still out there, kiss my a$$.

That would include the IPCC then? They are even more positive than Yergin when it comes to future availability of oil and gas.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('MattSavinar', 'Q')uestion for those of you happy about this: what do you gain?

I, for instance, might get a few more visits at LATOC. Same here at PO.com. That's all well and good for me and Aaron and I'm quite happy about it. See me tap dancing? But it also means we're that much closer to the lights going out for good.

In other words, I actually stand to benefit - both financially and politically - from this at least in the short term but I'm not jumping up and down with glee because it only confirms that all of us, myself included, are doomed and doomed soon.

So why the almost child like glee?

Quite true. Future will show, but my bets are with this post.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('aancci', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('americandream', 'I')'m all for a resurgence of hard core Marxism so yeah, I look forward to settling the issue of history once and for all. Aaaahhh.....the days when goose stepping, jack booted and disciplined, Red Army warriors strut the globe may well be close at hand.

Be a fkn cold day in hell before I'd let that happen in my neck of the woods. A real fkn cold day. I fkn hate Marxism more than just about anything, 'cept probably Islamic fundies.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Jack', 'J')ust wait until the folks with the large SUV are out of gas...and you get to mock them...and enjoy an MRE while their hungry children watch....and the Glock 22 on your hip deters them from doing anything but begging...and you sneer and tell them it's going to get worse.

Then smile smugly and say "I told you so....trucker."

Toss the empty MRE pouch to them as a final gesture of contempt.

8)

Now that's good, clean fun!

You do realize that those with bigger guns will overtake you or these people you sneer at will form a posse. There is nothing more dangerous than a mother with hungry children.

I hope such a scenario doesn't evolve.
Now why didn't I take the blue pill.

This is going to be fun. This week, I've gotten six to ten calls a day from people who called me nuts a few years ago. Teachers, lawyers, day traders, etc. all asking what's going to happen next. (I direct them here, of course, so please be [s]gentle[/s] brutal. They deserve it.) To think, oil has risen and gasoline has not followed suit. We're all going to be bothered by the skeptics and naysayers in our lives once gasoline hits $4 a gallon.

What a Pyrrhic victory this will be. Still, I have to say it: "We told you so." See you all in Hell. And by Hell, I mean "Anytown, USA" in about five years.

I told you so way back so I am a winner?

Naw.

I bought, stocked or invested in something
way back…

Maybe as long as someone has the wherewithall to buy.

I learned and changed something in my life today.

Perhaps better.

What have you learned and changed today?
