"The third world countries are not going to be majorly affected by a lack of oil - they barely use any"

There are many who say the above. But, I am inclined to think that the third world will be indirectly hit by the loss of oil. Why? Because that oil is how they are getting their food and other aid. I don't think there are going to be a lot of countries who will want to use up their remaining oil resources and stores to feed millions of people who are going to die anyway.

There's no percentage in saying "I told you so.", but it is awfully satisfying to have people who couldn't hear us a couple of years ago now want to know what's going on. I just tell them. No sense in rubbing it in.

It would be nice if people in power would get it, but what are they going to do?

I am working on getting the bus station nearby fixed up. We may need it sooner than we think. I talked to the town manager and I pointed out that at $5 a gallon it won't just be the bottom tier of society riding the bus. He seemed to get it. Time will tell if he does something about it.

I think that it is more effective to say, now's the time, instead of we told you so.

There is such thing as being a bad winner. People do have limitations in what they believe or accept. Some just are too busy with their own lives and can't really pay attention to serious subjects. When the effects of PO are obvious to everyone I will not tell them "I told you so!" The very facts will speak for themselves. It's like mocking others for not believing you while the ship is sinking with you and everyone in it. At that point does it really matter who was right or wrong? Food for thought.

Question for those of you happy about this: what do you gain?

I, for instance, might get a few more visits at LATOC. Same here at PO.com. That's all well and good for me and Aaron and I'm quite happy about it. See me tap dancing? But it also means we're that much closer to the lights going out for good.

In other words, I actually stand to benefit - both financially and politically - from this at least in the short term but I'm not jumping up and down with glee because it only confirms that all of us, myself included, are doomed and doomed soon.

So why the almost child like glee?

I agree, celebrate all you want, but it makes you no better than them, if not worse than them. Now's the time to get serious and really rev up your prep, or if you haven't quite gotten there yet, start planning with your family in mind.

That's a fair question.

1) I've done my preparations. I intend to do quite nicely as peak develops.

2) There are too many people. Peak leads to die-off and die-off fixes the problem.

3) It's fun to say "I told you so".

4) I like nationalism. Peak is likely to bring it back.

I think Matt is right on about this.

We might as well be right about knowing that an asteroid is going to hit the earth in the next 3 months.

PO will hit and when it does it will take all the plans ever made and turn them into dust.

As I stated before, its gotta hurt. Its going to hurt. That doesn't mean "its a lost cause"...we just sound so #%^%# harsh on here all the time...

Yup- I thinhk I'm one of the few people left on this board that are with you Fairmaiden. I'm tired of the ceaseless doomerism without much talk of community solutions. There's plenty of Rambo get your gun talk here- and it never ceases to maze me that people think they can carve out solutions based on their individual efforts.

There is no way to escape that you are part of much larger circles of people and will need to depend on that larger circle to muddle through the impending chaos. That means working with other people- not just prepping by learning how to use a chainsaw with ethanol, or stacking up piles of MREs next to the uzi.

I'm not saying personal prep isn't smart- I'm all for it and am actively doing it- but to believe you can go it alone- or mostly alone...ludicrous...

This is something I've been wondering about. Oil being scarce, would not some turn back to steamengines for locomotion and coal fired power stations to keep the lights on?.

I also find it somewhat ironic that people tout solar cells, but given their manufacturing requirements, wouldn't the price of solar cells go up as oil gets more expensive?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('DantesPeak', 'W')hy let those losers off the hook at $90? Why not $100, $150, $200? Ok, well, at around $200 the whole pricing system will start to break down, so we can't wait until then.

BTW - Lynch has been saying for about six months the price will go up for awhile, but go down later. So he only deserves an outer circle of Dante's inferno. :)

It doesn't matter how much it costs, as some economics gimp for TPTB will come out with some retarded "adjusted for inflation" comment and everyone will sit back and say "It's tough but not as tough as they say it was in 19XX. Remember how tough it was back then? Man it was tough then. You think its bad now? You don't realise how good you have it now because back then, phew it doesn't bear thinking about. We're lucky to be alive"

Be aware, "Adjusted for Inflation" is the new hypnotic mantra. Sure they are running out of them but TPTB still have them up their sleeves.

Where's the techno fix? Where are the alternatives? Where are all those hidrogen cars? And most of all, where is that somebody that whas going to do something. "They" are not doing anything at all, "they" that wouldn't allow this to happen aren't doing anything, price is going up.

WE TOLD YOU SO
But what you can't underestand is that we told you so you could prepare. We told you so you could be ready and have a better chance.

We are right, you are fucked.
