Who are you talking about here? Who's the old cock smoker? It must be someone else. If you are talking about me, and I hope you aren't, then our friendship is over.

i am fairly certain he is not gay.

and as for his being old, i think it is kind of like what rooster cogburn said "My tail feathers may droop a bit, and my wattles show, but I can still out-crow anything
in the barnyard. - No doubt."

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('mercurygirl', 'D')angit, I had a pretty rose for your avatar, Wildrose, but I just don't know how to post images. Sorry!

Thanks for thinking of me! I've been meaning to rig up something for my avatar. I think I'll snag my daughter's boyfriend one night when he's over and see if he can help me out with it.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('PenultimateManStanding', '
')You've got your own family as do I. There's more I could say but I won't. I'm not bad at the humor angle. But I'm whistling past the graveyard. My daughter is a vegetarian. If you want to know the truth, behind the jokes, I'm pretty scared.

My daughter's a vegetarian, too. She works really hard at taking care of herself.

PMS, there's lots we can be afraid of. Sometimes I feel like a warrior and other times I wonder if I'll just panic when things get nasty. But please, enjoy your life. We're at the age when our friends and acquaintances start to drop, out of the blue. And I could tell you stories from my work about things that happen to people that would break your heart.

An example close to my heart: My dad has COPD, a chronic lung illness. He needs oxygen around the clock and has become fragile, worrying about every virus that might come his way. My mom is young for her age, active and cheerful. Truth is, it's possible that my dad could still be here 10 years from now and my mom could have a stroke one day and it would all be over. I'm sure you could give examples like this as well.

Enjoy your days, my friend. We just don't know what turns our lives may take, or how much needless worrying we have engaged in.

I appreciate your endorsement. I'll tell you a story from when I was working in the restaurant. I was well loved there and I miss those days. I heard them describe me as hermaphrodite, lacking in neither attribute of either sex. They seemed to regard that as some kind of supernatural feat. What it means is that I've got it covered from any angle. I came into the world as an intelligent deaf kid. Quite heterosexual, painfully so. I don't have any quarrel with homosexuals as the President of Iran does. But to be honest, it's fun to be regarded with supernatural awe.

I'm not entirely deaf, just partially. But it's bad enough that a social worker for the State Of California warned me not to try it. He said you can't be a teacher if you can't hear. Yes, I suppose he was partially right. But I've managed to work as a substitute for 17 years.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Shannymara', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('MD', 'L')ife is good.

MD got enlightened when he started working outside with the plants. He's the guru of peakoil.com.

I'm not sure what it means to be enlightened.

I wouldn't really call your original idea ridicule, PMS. Mostly pretty apt characterizations, as are the rest of the people's. Anyway, we all frequently need some laughs, being such serious seers as we are.

Oh, hell, now I'm doing it too.
This thread was most fun that I've had in a long time. Zardoz called it character assassination, but I call it love. So what ever happened to the boy scout imperator? Talk about character assassination. Aaron was at least gracious enough. Techno-geek. heh heh. The folks at the oildrum (or was it the energy bulletin) accused us of being irrelevant because we crack jokes. Well, it's only in the Open Discussion forum that we do this. And it is my impression that a lot of people appreciate humor. Then of course we have to go back to being serious seers.

Wait a minute. The Oil Drum says we're irrelevant because we crack jokes? Is peak oil such a rarified austere subject that it is unfit for gallows humour? How can anyone take the august body of posters over there seriously, if they can't laugh? A lack of appreciation of humour, to me, indicates someone doesn't get it, on any level.

Yes there are 2 "u's" in humour if you're Canadian/British/Australian. It goes back to the French origins of the word, but anyways. I enjoy everyone on this forum besides that OilsMistery or whatever his name is.

Out of all the people on this forum I find MonteQuest to be the most enjoyable. His posts include not only factual data and historical information (woot for insurmountable fact) but often times he tells a story. The story-telling ability has always separated debaters from orators. Many thanks Monte, keep up the good work!
