Just another day in a world of denial and ignorance.

Unread postby What_Went_Wrong » Tue 22 May 2007, 03:44:14

Thought I’d share some of my day today with you guys.

Lately I’ve backed off of talking about peak oil to anyone, taking others advice that I should wait for an opportunity to present itself, and talking about it while avoiding the all out doom scenario I firmly believe in.

I been working at a pub again to earn abit of extra cash to clear my credit card before TSHTF. After work we closed the bar and me and my colleges were sat down having a drink, when one of them started talking about his economic collage class he’s taking. Perfect! I asked him what he thought about the oil prices now and how it will effect the world economy, he gave a text book ’markets will deal with it’ replay, so I started to explain how that might not be the case due to the economy’s needing an abundant supply of cheap energy to work and grow.

He seemed pretty interested, and just as I was thinking I was getting though to him on some level, one of the girls sat with us pipes up with ’god this is boring’. I turned to her and sarcastically said ‘Sorry, shall we talk about some celebrity gossip instead?’. The guy I was talking to about PO then enthusiastically started talking about David Beckhams transfer to LA galaxy, and the girls faces lit up and that was that, the conversation was in fall swing with all 5 people involved. They didn’t even realise I was being sarcastic, that was the saddest part…

So I took myself to the toilet, shaking my head all the way (as I think celeb gossip is terrible, regardless of PO). I washed my hands, and as I was drying them with the electrical hand dryer I read the blurb written on it, and it proudly stated ‘Electric dryers are good for the environment, they eliminate paper towel waste’. Again my head started to shake involuntarily.

So off back to the bar I went to join my collages, and there they were, still talking about David fucking beckham. Then they all talked about going to another bar that stays open later then we did. ‘I’ll phone a cab now!’ one of the girls says. It was a 10-15 min walk max and it was not cold outside.

Honestly, I can’t go on living in this virtual insanity any longer. Die off already :P (j/k, but you know what I mean)

I’ve decided that all the other forums on this board have plenty of great posters that covers all angles as needed, but these fourms are lacking. I’m gonna post more shit like this for the newcomers who just wanna feel less ‘alone‘ like myself :P

Basically, I accept what’s happening now, I don’t need more convincing, so might as well just talk about how it makes me feel until WAAF (We are all fucked, I’m board of TSHTF)

Sad indeed WWW, why bother trying to raise awareness eh? At times like that when it seems people don't have the capacity to talk about things other than shopping or celebrities, I can't resist dropping in a few 'sheep' or 'sheeple' comments which agitates people without insulting them and sometimes prompts them into asking questions- what do you mean by that? And then you can go on to enlighten them how we live in a society of brainwashed drones that are programmed by the media to consume. Hopefully someone will object to your statement, and if your lucky, some intelligent chat may develop from this.

Did you pick up any good stories on Beckhams move to LA Galaxy?

He really is the best free kick taker I have ever seen.

It's nice to see the whole Beckham family being so successful. As you can see from the story below we all love to know about this wonderfully talented family - even in Ireland.

Maybe if David Beckham publicly supported the peak oil theory then we would have a better chance of getting some interest!

Terrible feeling - trying to save humanity and they just don't want to know about it! I know exactly how you feel

On a brighter note, I'm having some really nice, inclusive, questioning, rational conversations about PO on my Cloth Nappy Forum (don't laugh) - it's great - there are a lot of genuinely interested women there - (sadly most can't get their husbands to listen.) I suppose it makes sense though, women who use cloth nappies tend to be a bit more "fringe" than the mainstream - up to date with environmental issues etc, so we're kinda operating at a higher level of consciousness already LOL :)

Someone posted about how they had written to Blair, Brown, Cameron etc. about peak oil. I wonder if they had any replies.

Personally I'm thinking of writing to JK Rowling. If she were to get interested in Peak Oil then it could get great publicity; everyone would listen to JK! Maybe I'll send her a print out from lifeaftertheoilcrash.net. Mmwhahahaha!

A cloth nap? Is that like putting someone to sleep by holding a pillow over their head? Is this how the die-off begins, with people suffocating their children!?

Ohhhh. Diapers. Ok. Carry on.

(((www))) I know, I know. I am often starving for good IRL conversation here, too. So I hang out on message boards while watching paint dry.

I am an artist by trade. Since I became PO aware I've been incorporating the subject subtly in part of my work. Exhibits are often accompanied by a catalogue, artist's talk, etc. and media reviews if one is fortunate. This is where I am able to make a statement and get folks thinking about something other than what celebrity exposed her cunt in what limo.

This process takes time, but it may potentially reach more people than a frustrating bar chat will. I see it as one way I can contribute to awareness in a more palatable, less "she is batshit crazy" way.

Hopefully you can find a method to reach out to more people. How about writing your own book, "Chicken Soup for the PO Aware Soul?"

Snowshoegirl, "Chicken Soup for the PO Aware Soul": that's an excellent idea and one I toyed with last year. (Getting published once makes you delusional.)

WWW didn't it occur to you the economics guy you were talking to had the hots for the chick interested in Dave Beckham?

The greatest problem is that most people have not developed their brains - they're stupid or ignorant or both. They have the caveman mentality evolved in small primitive tribes where the gossip among the tribe was the most important thing. It could very well determine where you ended up in the heirarchy. These simple people just do what their simple evolved brains lead them to do. When they start feeling the pain they will not suddenly have an intellectual awakening, they'll look around for some gossip, someone to blame like the oil companies. Better just make your own preparations and make allowance for the gossip heads you love and forget trying to save the rest. They will go down gossiping.

I mentioned Peak Oil to some friends a few weeks ago at dinner and immediately got blown off with the Big Oil Collusion explanation.

You know what I'm talking about: Government ministers, execs, geologists and drillers from private and state-owned companies, OPEC and non-OPEC countries including Russia, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Venezuela, Norway, Brazil, Mexico, Canada and dozens of other interesting bedfellows are holding secret meetings on a mountaintop somewhere to set export rates and refinery shutdowns and plot this whole Peak Oil scam to keep prices up! I'm sure the jews and freemasons are involved too.

I didn't even have time to explain EROEI.

I'd prefer it if someone would just change the subject to the Beckham family. Seriously, the Big Oil Collusion blowoff is gonna give me ulcers.

"bedfellows are holding secret meetings on a mountaintop somewhere to set export rates and refinery shutdowns and plot this whole Peak Oil scam"

THEN after they have taken the dive down the rabbit hole...they find themselves caught between the "sane peakers" and the "paranoid peakers" on boards like this.

the little house on the praries vs the mad max

the bone crushing thud vs the slow grind

the "i'm gonna" crowd vs the "i did" crowd

the "can't eat gold" vs "naw, but u can barter gold"

the "223" vs "308"

and it goes on and on and on and on and on....

so the point I am trying to make is

us monkeys are jaw jackers because we forgot how to read.

Hi Doly,

They are calibers in assault rifles (AR_...

I have a 223.

Some swear by the stopping power of a 308.

Personally - I would like the option of a 203 on the AR- now there is some stopping power!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That B a grenade launcher the 203 that is...

Savvy?
