Lately I’ve backed off of talking about peak oil to anyone, taking others advice that I should wait for an opportunity to present itself, and talking about it while avoiding the all out doom scenario I firmly believe in.
I been working at a pub again to earn abit of extra cash to clear my credit card before TSHTF. After work we closed the bar and me and my colleges were sat down having a drink, when one of them started talking about his economic collage class he’s taking. Perfect! I asked him what he thought about the oil prices now and how it will effect the world economy, he gave a text book ’markets will deal with it’ replay, so I started to explain how that might not be the case due to the economy’s needing an abundant supply of cheap energy to work and grow.
He seemed pretty interested, and just as I was thinking I was getting though to him on some level, one of the girls sat with us pipes up with ’god this is boring’. I turned to her and sarcastically said ‘Sorry, shall we talk about some celebrity gossip instead?’. The guy I was talking to about PO then enthusiastically started talking about David Beckhams transfer to LA galaxy, and the girls faces lit up and that was that, the conversation was in fall swing with all 5 people involved. They didn’t even realise I was being sarcastic, that was the saddest part…
So I took myself to the toilet, shaking my head all the way (as I think celeb gossip is terrible, regardless of PO). I washed my hands, and as I was drying them with the electrical hand dryer I read the blurb written on it, and it proudly stated ‘Electric dryers are good for the environment, they eliminate paper towel waste’. Again my head started to shake involuntarily.
So off back to the bar I went to join my collages, and there they were, still talking about David fucking beckham. Then they all talked about going to another bar that stays open later then we did. ‘I’ll phone a cab now!’ one of the girls says. It was a 10-15 min walk max and it was not cold outside.
Honestly, I can’t go on living in this virtual insanity any longer. Die off already
