The hate, scapegoating and recriminations are arriving at last.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('some_guy282', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Twilight', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Eli', 'T')his summer is going to be the first massive hit of PO.
Except it won't be because of peak, it'll be the Mexican government being pilloried for pulling an Enron on US consumers. I would be surprised if the word "peak" passes Bush's lips before he leaves.
I have to agree. I have long thought that when the crunch comes we'll have an endless parade of scape goats instead of a rational analysis of what is actually causing the problems. Blaming Mexico is going to be very easy. I can see it now... "Incompetent management," "failed government," etc etc.
http://www.peakoil.com/fortopic28138.html We were right. So here it is, EXCLUSIVE from CNN: high gasoline prices are caused by foreigners. My comments in bold italics.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('CNN', '[')b]Where gasoline is cheap
And why places like Saudi Arabia, Iran, China and Russia are making it more expensive for you.
These absurdly low prices are a direct result of massive government subsidies. While these numbers are not adjusted for cost of living, it's fair to say that drivers in those countries are getting a good deal.
But it's straining government budgets. More importantly, it's not allowing the free market to do its job.
(ie price the producing countries out of the market) Higher prices on the open market are not leading to a drop in demand, which is keeping the cost of oil high for everyone else.
(For us, not the billions of people we are about to talk about a few paragraphs lower).Source: CNN Internal demand growth is listed as:
US: 2.5%
China: 7.5%
Saudi Arabia: 5.6%
Iran: 3.3%
Russia, Egypt, India, Venezuela and Brazil are also given an honourable mention.
If only there was some way of making oil exporters use less oil, so "everyone else" (not the 3bn people listed) got a fair deal...

I close with this pearl of wisdom:

Intriguing. And in your house, high prices don't either, mhmm?
How deliciously apt.
