I'm a home owe-ner. :)

Actually nobody owns their own home. The government owns it.

try not paying your taxes sometime...Or to really prove who owns your home, try not paying your mortgage or your taxes and observe what the bank gets

Out here in the boonies, people are now pretending to sell their "homes."

This has been going on for over a year now.

June 12 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. foreclosure filings surged 90 percent in May from a year earlier as more homeowners fell behind on their monthly mortgage payments, RealtyTrac Inc. said.

Yes, a fixed mortgage in a time of inflation is not a bad idea - but remember also that in the 170's property taxes skyrocketed. That's why Prop 13 was born in Calif.

Considering everyone's job will be incredibly unstable, having debt - especially debt connnected to a primary residence is not a great idea.

Miss a few payments or a tax payment and your 'equity' evaporates and you and your family are on the street.

A gentle reminder that you never really own your home

Unread postby Prince » Wed 18 Jul 2007, 14:22:52

House nearly taken away over $1.63 tax bill

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I')n 1996, the $1.63 bill was sent to a defunct address and returned as undelivered. The Atwoods weren't looking for it, because they had owned the four-bedroom house mortgage-free since 1968 and had been exempt from the state tax.

Just goes to show you how easily things can be taken away from you The person in charge or pushing this from the "land company" should be castrated for attempting something so petty and heartless... $1.63 tax bill. What a prick.

Somehow I've never heard of an old lady being deprived of her house over $1.63 in any Socialist country.

You don't own your land in an (officially) socialist country either.. And yes they do seize property on a whim... Maybe you can tell the difference between current western governments (US too) and socialism.... I can't...

Somebody's gotta pay for the firefighters, cops and local streets... lest you think these things should be contracted out and funded by user fees?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', 'y')eah. Don't folks get the house for free in those nasty socialist countries? "to each according to their needs, from each according tot their means." You got two houses. I got no houses. Now we both have one house. sounds nice.

Oh those communist fuckers are horrible. Read Dmitry Orlov's takes of the USSR collapse, in the US all those people would have been rousted out of their houses and put into camps and Superdomes, for failure to pay rent and taxes and fees, and even though it's better to let people have a place to live, under good American Capitalism, you can't let people just live and be, you just can't. It makes Jesus cry if you don't evict the poor and put 'em in camps. Orlov's point is that since no one "owned" anything, people were able to stay where they were living and grow their gardens and so on, which would be unimaginable in the US. Growing gardens! How many places in the US unless you're out in the middle of nowhere, can you grow a garden without being in danger of losing your house for not having a lawn?

Case in point.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he officer had judged that Ms Perry's "sadly neglected and dying landscape" breached an Orem city guideline and was attempting to issue a formal caution when the 70-year-old was injured.

I'll take a wild guess and assume the guideline is intended to aid in maintaining property values.

Whatever the politics, I'd rather live in a country where no-one gives a fuck.

That also shows why it's very important to have a community network of friends if that's at all possible (in many places in the US it's not).

The Mormons may be a cult, but they're not the cold motherfuckers average Americans are, and they know all about the US trying to wipe them out. Remember Utah was not part of the US when the Mormons walked there to flee US genocide efforts.

More and more we'll see the need to find our tribe, whatever tribe that may be, to stand up against the capitalists.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('gnm', 'M')y point still stands...

That’s right Dammit!

What do you do when the neighbor’s house is blazing?

Get out the marshmallows!

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('A few weeks ago GNM', 'H')ad a wet winter and so far a pretty wet spring. Altogether wetter than usual and quite nice. Still playing catch up on reservoirs however from the past 5 years or so...

So I guess your investments in building those resevoirs has turned out OK then? You must be getting a fine return as well as some electricity and drinking water in the bargain - bought and paid for by your fellow investors own initiative without the boot of some stinking badge-backed overlord.

I am sure they aren’t financed by taxes like the ones out in Californistan or you would do without.

The legitimate object of government, is to do for a community of people, whatever they need to have done, but can not do, at all, or can not, so well do, for themselves -- in their separate, and individual capacities.
