$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('smallpoxgirl', 'S')o figure this one out:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'J')udge Karen Henderson dissented, writing that the Second Amendment does not apply to the District of Columbia because it is not a state.

Well it does not make sense but those are the types we have around here. Might be latching into the fact that DC does not have a vote in Congress. If your not from around here you would not know that is is a huge bone of contention. Ever seen a DC licence plate? It reads... "Taxation Without Representation". Agreed though... if DC is not a state it has zero rights. The citizens on the other hand...

Actually my favorite license plate is Quebec "Je me souviens".

This is the case folks.. I have no clue why it's not on the CNN front page.

The Bush administration has endorsed individual gun-ownership rights but the Supreme Court has never settled the issue.

If the dispute makes it to the high court, it would be the first case in nearly 70 years to address the Second Amendment's scope.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('smallpoxgirl', 'S')o the bill of rights doesn't apply in DC?

Very interesting court case. Good summary of the decision here:

Goodness knows, if citizens need tools for defense anywhere, they need them in the cesspool of Washington D.C.

????So the bill of rights doesn't apply in DC? What kind of twisted logic is that? The Bill of Rights was originally written to restrict the actions of the federal government, not the states. The Bill of Rights only became applicable to the states with the passage of the 14th amendment following the Civil War. How on earth would anyone conclude that the 2nd amendment restricts actions of the states, but doesn't affect how the federal government runs DC?

This ruling and others like it have a lot of ramifications for federalists. In a lot of situations, for example Guantanamo Bay, the Feds thinks that they are in some kind of never never land, where they can do as they please. Evidently not.

Well, FEDGOV knows now.

In an ironic dreamworld wishful thinking twist of fate; It would be hilarious if FEDGOV raided the houses they knew did not have any arms because it is way easier and effective to confiscate precious resources from and enslave those defenseless households under martial law.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('gnm', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('SoothSayer', 'I')n the UK we get a MANDATORY 5 years jail if found with a handgun. No civilian may own one.

Shotguns and to a lesser extent rifles can be owned .. but only after a police check etc. Very few people possess firearms here.

I can't imagine what it must be like living in a country awash with firearms.

Your police are not "civilians" ? 8O that would make them an occupying army...

Awash in firearms... actually its quite nice here... And Switzerland is also....

If you're going to call people childish names, you're going to have to learn your english.

“You’re” is always a contraction of “you are.”

"Your" is the possessive form of "you"...your boots; your gun

True. But now the battle cry around here (DC) is that the "Liberal" gun laws in MD and VA are causing the influx of guns into DC and now we (they) should put pressure on the surrounding states to restrict ownership. They might win... that's when I leave. This place is just nuts.

Yeah. I'm sure that if the US banned all private ownership of guns, that would do the trick. I mean, we banned drugs and they certainly disappeared. Surely no one would smuggle guns into the country either.

In light of the recent happenings... here's Penn and Teller taking on gun control. Funny stuff.

It obviously makes sense for anyone to be able to buy lethal weapons as long as they pass a basic background check, even if they have psychological problems.

I just wish we had such enlightened gun laws here in Britain. I'm sure the country would be greatly improved by the addition of 10 to 15 million personal firearms.

I don't get why you're referencing the tragedy at Virginia Tech and in the same breath posting a link to a video opposing gun control which you consider to be funny.

Is there something wrong with you?

If someone in that building was armed the perp would have not been so successful. Instead we get to see, all over the media what the gun control proponents love... photos of victims and "rescuers" who obviously arrived too late or just plan did not do what was needed to be done. As for the humor, why not? Comedians are more often then the MSM correct in their assumptions and delivery.

It is a famous quote, from the famous book Heart of Darkness. The line should be understood as irony.

Also, I share the same view as Penn and Teller on the obligation to bear arms. The price of democratic freedom is tragically high, and not evenly distributed. And the discourse surrounding it is fully of irony and insanity. There is plenty to make light of. [sub]("plenty of which to make light" for any grammar nazis.)[/sub]

In the light of recent events, in aftermarth of which unlike on previous occasions lead to hardly a whisper of gun control, my feeling is that Americans will never learn. It is just something too deep rooted in their culture, something they have been fed from birth and like all organized social movements (like religon) very hard, if not impossible for any individual to break free from. I am pulling my hair out literally at the inability of so many people to make this connection......if Cho had not been able to buy an semi-automatic weapon legally, the chances of a massacare like this would have been very very low......if not impossible! There are twisted pshycos in all developed countries.........but only in the US are they able to go commit massacares like this!

Sure, before anyone says it , there have been incidents of catastrophic gun violence in other countries as well, but you'd have to admit the frequency is much lower. And the overall incidence of gun violence is less by an order of magnitude.

I apologize if this post seem offensive or condescending; not my intention.
