It's no secret. There are power groups competing all over the planet.
Some are visible, some obscure, and some hidden.
It's extremely unlikely that one small secret group could hold the top for any length of time.

It's important to add their tenticles are in the media as well. It's dictated in accordance with their policies what the focus of the news should be - who gets "play" and who doesn't (when things like hurricanes hitting New Orleans aren't happening). There's a significant network of public shareholders and privately financed media ownership in place to enforce the "program" along with centralized news dispatch through Reuters/AP.
