I reckon it's a quote or paraphrase of a memory of a quote from about a hundred years ago.

Do you know anyone who still traps big game in their backyard before going to work?

I don't. How about you Lotrfan?

But I do have rabbits I wish I could shoot. That has nothing to do with immigration... just safetly.

No...yes... my school put me in a "natural resources" class which is actually a class about discussing hunting and shooting things. The teacher told us all about his experiences that he used to do, using almost those exact words. 8O

I thought living in upper-middle class suburbia protected me of such things but apparantly not. It was really scary, the hick-type people that you really don't see during normal classes came out of the woodwork and started talking about the animals they trapped in the morning when they woke up at 4am and this years bird shooting season.

And they blame the Chinese?

That's scary.

I know the feeling. I've retired my doomerism until there is no food in the stores. Why worry? Escapist fantasies won"t do any good and we don't know how it will all play out. Enjoy high school. I had some fun back then, but it sucked overall. The adults are suspicious with good reason. Ever see Ferris Beuller's Day Off? If you need to use the restroom, you may need a coupon. You may only get a few coupons. I suggest you use the restroom during passing periods.

There was no room at the inn, virgin birth, wise men came with gifts. The usual story.

Heh, some of my teachers are nice and let us go to the bathroom more often but most teachers only offer us 2 bathroom passes per semester (it must be bad for the ladies) and lock the doors the moment the bell rings, so if you are 1 second late you miss and entire day of class! (and actually we have 2 hours classes every other day so its actually missing 2 days of class). But, it's still fun. I talk or text people during class and life outside of school, parties, etc is a blast. I don't have time to be a doomer... I live life right now like there is nothing bad looming over the horizon.

Right, they give a couple coupons for a whole semester, so you have to use the bathroom during passing period, but if you do and you miss the bell by 5 seconds you get locked out for two hours, get detention or Saturday school. Now as I've mentioned before, I work as a substitute (which is why I have so much time to post here 8) Sometimes I get instructions not to let anybody use the bathroom at all for any reason, unless it's an emergency. You know what happens? I make the boys stay in class while the girls just look sheepish, put on airs and whisper, "its a girl thing" so I have to let them go.

1. So did these kids' parents' taxes pay for these facilities, and you are denying their use?

2. Does this not count as cruel and unusual punishment?

3. Are you not using the Nuremberg Defence? "Sometimes I get instructions" sounds rather like "I was only following orders".

I wonder what these kids actually learn, as opposed to what we want them to learn.
