$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'W')ow, that's quite a list, smiley. Interesting that it goes back to 1945. Seems to me that the powers that be in the US came to the conclusion back then that the world is screwed up, we had to do something about it. We're they wrong, I don't know, I guess so.

Personally, I think we should raise the drawbridge and keep *everyone* out. New Zealand for New Zealanders.

Strange accompanying quotation, but here goes...

Overpopulation is a global problem. We are lucky to not be overwhelmed yet, but we have cretins in this country still demanding more immigrants to perpetuate infinite growth.

Raising the drawbridge and looking after our own interests would be useful.

Thomas Pynchon, Gravity's Rainbow, the finest piece of American literature ever. But only intelligent people can appreciate it.

TPTB in the US came to the conclusion that they had exited WW2 in a very strong position, a position they intended to maintain at all costs. It really had nothing to do with any self-righteous concepts of "putting the world to rights".

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'Y')ou Europeans were sure a lot of fuck ups.

So that explains why so many US interventions were in Latin America and Asia..

Americans are idealistic. We enjoyed bounty when the rest of the world was scraping to get by. If those tin-horn dictators down south couldn't see it, then why did they send their sons to our military academies? And yes, Europe fucked up. That's a story plain for all to see.

It's hyperbole.

Hyperbole involves an obvious exaggeration of the truth. That's why it is most commonly used in poetry. But when I read your posts, I get the feeling that you believe what you say, but then again you're probably the most sarcastic person in this forum :).

Would it be too indiscrete to ask how old are you?

I totally agree. However in the US that stance is considered racist. A lot of people here are eyeing your nation considering our immigration problem... we might just become yours.

Your right, it is not... Mexicans are caught and released. OTMs (Other than Mexicans) are immediately deported. This policy is somehow racist... against Mexicans.

I remember the good old days where everyone in my town used to hunt right in their backyards/land before work, or setting up a trap and catching many many big game. That is what America is really about, but now we can't with these goddamn regulations and these mexicans and chinaman taking up our land so that we can't hunt here anymore

I you need immigration (like for some reason NZ government thinks we do) then you have an inherently unsustainable lifestyle.

There will always be a bottomless pit of potential immigrants.

The problem being you will run out of room to put them.

I think it's more a part of the unsustainable welfare state. With declining birthrates in the western world we can't support the promises we made a generation ago. Too bad now western culture has to become extinct for a single generation's benefit.

Yo, Lotorfan... the immigrants in my neighborhood have no problem with the discharge of firearms so if you want to shoot rabbits you can come over here. But I find your comment about "Chinaman" a bit disconcerting.

I reckon it's a quote or paraphrase of a memory of a quote from about a hundred years ago.

Do you know anyone who still traps big game in their backyard before going to work?
