I agree. The Kunstler
commentary on the election calls Kerry Bush-lite. Why vote for Bush Lite when you can get the real thing. Of course, Kunstler also points out that the real thing isn't much to talk about.
But for those with short memories, the Democrats controlled the House, Senate, and Presidency for quite a long time, stacked the supreme court, and therefore were the dominant party while the Republicans were a fringe. The Republicans have managed, through about 40 years of effort, to put themselves into the drivers seat.
Given that I think there are financial imbalances that must be rectified within the next four years, it is likely that the Republicans will be on the receiving end of a lot of unhappy people come 2008. Maybe not, but it seems likely.
So one party state? Sort of. The Republicans are in acendancy, but do not forget that what goes up usually comes down.
