Talk about anti-climactic, Putin's comment was actually pretty tame.
And the conclusion?:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')hey say [Putin] has closed media outlets, crushed independent businessmen, tamed the judiciary and shackled opposition parties and politicians.
Each and every one of these criticisms of Russia apply equally to what the neocons are doing in America right this very minute:
* Is there really any diffence between Fox, Cnn, Msnbc? Only in degree, and all are basically right-wing apologist outlets, with Fox being a full-scale propanganda arm of the so-called Republican party.
* Unrestrained corporate captalism has destroyed more small businesses than can be counted. When Wal-Mart comes into to town, large numbers of local businesses die. Whole sectors of small business capitalism is on the ropes in America. Hell, is it any wonder a "good" American job these days is managing Red Lobster?
* Roberts on the Supreme Court? The reactionary Alito? Talk about a tamed judiciary (not to mention Congress).
* The opposition political party has not been completely muted yet, but the neocon news outlets quite effectively muffle the message. The neocon "news media" glorify hate broadcasters like Ann Coulter, while marginalizing all dissenting voices.
And we're not even talking about such freedom busters as the "Patriot Act" (now there's a contradiction in terms), governmental eavesdropping on American citizens with no probable cause or warrants, and centralization of all power into the hands of the executive with the excuse of "forever warfare".
Even the Texas Republican Ron Paul has recently stated that America is currently experiencing "soft fascism" and that Bush has "violated the Constitution."
Pot calling the kettle black?
