If you go to the Kremlin web site and look at his speech made today (translated into English):

Search for "their home – their fortress" and read it...
What Putin is saying is that America has built her fortress, and Putin indicates that this is good, and gives a compliment, that in fact, it is a job well done. He eludes that he wants the same for Russia and this is his goal.
Yet if you read the media stories, they make it sound like Putin is sarcastic or angry or thumbing his nose...
This is what gets me with the issue of peak oil and the way the western media and governments play on things.
Americans really don't know what's going on in the world and have no clue about reality or where other countries (and people) stand. Americans hear what they want to hear, period. And as far as Americans are concerned, peak oil isn't real, Russians are still Stalinist sitting on American oil and gas, and exponential growth will keep going on forever.
Maybe the real reason America is so reactionary, so paranoid that "others" are holding their energy resources, maybe it's because Americans know that the groupthink is fake... Americans walk around pointing at the positive, to be optimistic, to talk the fairy tale up, and to point at the light at the end of the tunnel... yet deep down Americans know that the light at the end of the tunnel is a train... and it's why they need to bullsh!t and distort everything...
American translators distorted this on purpose...
