$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('TheTurtle', '
')Have I come across as aggressive and hostile?

My apologies.
The people here - yourself included - are actually fine. I just couldn't resist dropping that remark in as a wind-up. I promise to behave myself in future. Frankly, it's up to everyone to make their own choices. What works for me, and others, isn't necessarily prescriptive for everyone else - but as animals obviously can't have a say in the matter, it would be negligent not to at least try to make a case on their behalf.
As for the peak oil dimension . . . so much of our economic structure is liable to be disrupted in the next few years, that all sorts of re-evaluations are going to have to be made about what forms of food production are - or are not - viable, as a means of feeding the greatest number of people cheaply. It will be interesting to see whether large scale meat production survives the shake-up.
Alternatively, If you're a smallholder - try to give your stock decent lives, and at least dispatch them kindly.
