How do you know it isn't clinical depression?
I can think of plenty of examples of people that actually LIVED through seriously tough times (lots of people in WWII, plenty of people who have lived through famines) and they didn't consider suicide. You just THINK about the future, and feel suicidal.
Are you still certain there's nothing wrong with the way your mind is working?
Take note of this, as well: you are talking with a bunch of people that also believe in PO, and you are the only one that is thinking of suicide. You still think you are being reasonable?
They may have had some kind of hope to cling to. I don't see really any hope. Like I said before, I think here that people assume that because they are "in the know" of PO that it will lend them some kind of clemency or lessen their pain. Don't seem to realize that they're not going to be Mad Max and that they will suffer horribly all the same. I don't even find half the responses in this thread to really even take the idea all that seriously.
