It's meant to emphasize that we are a very unique blend of folks. Nothing more than that. The tequila and tree story! Thanks for reminding me. :-D I do love it when people offer such amusing tales.

1/5 of a gallon. At 80 Proof, it's enough to wipe out just about anyone but W. C. Fields.

(okay, I dont' get this for a second. I posted this after rogerhb asked what my plan are for tomorrow. Why does it appear as an older post?

You're demonstrating an active interest in problem solving which is a sign of a strong survival instinct.

It's something to ask somebody thinking of committing suicide. We are so used to making plans for tomorrow that it is a totally natural question. It's to put suicide in perspective.

Eg, my problems are so bad that I will solve them by committing suicide and then tomorrow I will....

How about the old curiosity. What will happen tomorrow? What will you have missed?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'G')o down to the navajo reservation and take some peyote or something. You can't kill yourself. Because "yourself" doesn't even exist. It's just a contruct of your logical mind. The same voice that wants to kill you.

No shit, go experience ego death, this will destroy your "reality" and reformat your "inner" hard drive. You are not the centre of the universe or the only" thing" with a conscious energy, Best thing I've ever done discovering the only infinite resource.

These indians were onto something with thier ritual use of ethnogens, builds great inner strength and empthay.

And always think of your Mum's (Ghia), unconditonal love is the most powerful emotion to overcome extream depression.

Maybe your calling, after you get thru your own depression, will be to help others, you don't need to "know" anything you can "feel" whats right and help them. After all you've got a head start on the sheeple.

How about the Stonehouse/Reggie Perrin leave your clothes on the beach. The trick is to leave footprints into the sea but none coming out.

Let me guess - were you raised by a single mom? Or maybe you don't see your father often? That's a common problem these days... some poor kids never learn how to be a man.

How to be a man:

Take all those emotions that make you sad and depressed and cram them someplace where the sun doesn't shine. Quit whining, go to work, punch the clock, come home, and drink beer. Eventually you will feel fine. Works for millions of men the world over.

Then drink, beat the wife and belt the kids. That's how it's been done through the generations.

How do you know that what's coming will make your life worse? Put another way, you certainly don't seem happy now; what *would* make you happy?

It will likely be harder to survive in the years ahead, but not likely impossible. Yes, if your definition of "happiness" is to achieve the "American Dream", then you probably will not be happy. But why is that a prerequisite for happiness, or even a worthwhile goal? Is your desire is to acquire as much material wealth as possible with as little effort as possible, or is there something more that doesn't require an oil-based society?

I have a strong feeling that those who survive the coming crisis will not be the ones with the most ammo or the most hoarded food; they will be the ones who can adapt their goals and mindset to a completely new paradigm.

Why are you so certain that you cannot adapt?

I don't have the patience to pore through this whole thread, but I will say to DJ, I get depressed and have lots of negative thoughts about what is coming and the implications for those I love, but I have spun it into a positive in a lot of ways...
- I used to get really depressed that I was one of the few of my friends without a wife and kids. That all changed when I learned about PO. The intelligent people pretty much accept what I am saying, they just freely admit that they are too invested in their jobs/lifestyles to really face the reality of what I am telling them. So, I feel I can serve as a solid reference point when the shit really begins hitting the fan. We will work this out together.

And, from a cockiness/arrogance standpoint, I can't wait to watch those who doubt and disbelieve what the peak oil crowd knows is coming. This is so great. All your life you play against the house. But, when you buy into peak oil, you become part of the house, because no amount of investment or technology can beat geology/chemistry/physics/math/mother nature. It really is this aspect which keeps me going when I am in the dumps. I can't wait to tell everyone how goddamned right I was when they are stuck with half a million dollar mortgages into which they thought they could grow.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('DamienJasper', 'A')lso, I just don't think anyone's getting my point. This ain't no clinical depression. Just tell me how many times I have to say it to get that point accross.

How do you know it isn't clinical depression?

I can think of plenty of examples of people that actually LIVED through seriously tough times (lots of people in WWII, plenty of people who have lived through famines) and they didn't consider suicide. You just THINK about the future, and feel suicidal.

Are you still certain there's nothing wrong with the way your mind is working?

Take note of this, as well: you are talking with a bunch of people that also believe in PO, and you are the only one that is thinking of suicide. You still think you are being reasonable?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('DamienJasper', 'B')ut to be perfectly honest, I didn't come here to argue with everybody. So if that's what you're on this thread to do, go away.

I want to argue with the idea that you're not clinically depressed. I believe you are.

Have you been to your physician and told them about how you're feeling? You haven't, have you?

It is not rational to want to kill yourself at this time. Not rational.
