You know, I used to think the airlines would be the canaries in the coal mine, because so much of air travel is nonessential. But now I'm wondering if it will be the car companies, specifically the American car companies, that die first.
Airlines are ailing, but their market share is protected, to a great extent, because the FAA decides who can fly where, and when. You won't have foreign airlines taking over the Boston to St. Louis run.
Not so with cars. Toyota is
kicking Ford's butt. People are starting to fear that
GM will declare bankruptcy. Chrysler has never been the same since they declared banktruptcy in the '70s, though they had a brief heyday when they invented the minivan.
If GM does declare bankruptcy, will the feds bail them out, like they did Chrysler?
