Hi:

It hasn't been explained very well in this thread how to get this thing. Some of us don't know how to download stuff this way. What you need to do is download and install a Bit Torrent client (program) separately, it's sort of like downloading Kazaa but without the advertising crap. This is the thing that does the downloading for you. If you don't have it and click on the link all that happens is you download the "torrent file", which is simply a "description" of it.

Some bit torrent clients are:

Bit Tornado, Bit Comet, Azureus (needs Java installed), Bit Lord

Just google for the name or Bit Torrent in general.

Once you have this installed and working, clicking on the link will pass this "description" to the Bit Torrent client, which will then download the movie for you. Note that this is file sharing! Media publishers call it piracy. The likelihood of being caught is low but it does exist, in theory you could in theory be persecuted. (not a misspelling)

You're right OZ_DOC. And they didn't even touch on the economic depression, collapse of the electrical grid, or war with China etc, instead it's a 1 year crisis that is resolved at the end. And that's what separates movies from real life, there will be no happy ending if any of the rest of the predictions come true.

Yeah, I caught it the other night. It had an introduction presented by David Koch (Aussie TV personality), where he tried to emphasise that it’s only a fictional documentary so don’t panic. His last words were “But it does make you think about how much we rely on oil…”

Anyway, it’s an amazing show considering Katrina. It sure puts some lights on how the energy crisis might go down.

Funny how it finishes with the U.S. managing to buy enough oil from Russia to make everything okay again, and what do you know, business as usual continues. It would have been nice if they at least mentioned something about needing to urgently plan for the next energy crisis.

Certainly an interesting film, the ending was a bit disappointing, "the russian oil tankers are arriving, we saved! hooray" and everybody can get back into their SUV's. It also seemed to skirt the issue of peak oil.

I wonder how much the producers/network made them remove from the original script.

But man... the first 10-15 minutes were something else. There was even a cameo from Ray Nagin talking about the people who would have to stay in NO (~100K) and the Superdome being used as a 'shelter of last resort'.

And Julia took the same path between the keys and cuba (before veering north to hit NO) that Rita just went through.

Looks like part 2 of Oil Storm could happen as well, with Rita bearing down on the Houston Ship Channel. I watched it in a bar last year,and I was one of the only people even interested. Most others had other things on their minds. It struck me as a very plausible scenario. It's happening in a very similar way so far to the movie.

Okay, in Oil Storm they basically predicted hurricane Katrina to within a week it hit with even more accurate effects on oil. Then they fictionalize a tanker crash blows up the Houston oil station in October. Well, it looks like instead of a tanker accident, it turns out to be another hurricane that may have the same end result - another million barrels (give or take) of refining capacity. Then they theorize on a Saudi Arabia terrorist crisis. I think the more likely real scenario will be another Iran oil embargo related to the nuclear situation - it'll have the same result with about 4mbpd off the market or whatnot. And we all know about the natural gas crisis coming this winter.

Is this movie starting to get a little too accurate for anybody's liking? Some of the variables may have changed (dates, cities, countries), but the results are looking more and more the same.

I'm also amazed at the accuracy of this movie beforehand. Within a week of the landing date, name of the Hurricane off by only one letter...eerie.
