Moderators,
Can you please separate the flaming from this announcement and put it in the hall of flames? I'd hate to see the entire thread moved because of the childish hijacking of the thread - and have people miss the information on the upcoming programs.
Thanks,
Kathy

Well, the news that LinkTV will be airing The End of Suburbia is a big surprise to me, considering that they haven't bothered to license it from us.

Barry; you lurker.

Welcome aboard Barry.

Are you going to sue LinkTV?

btw, I enjoyed your film, (or is appreciate a better word?).

Any word on when your sequel will be released?

I checked the "End of Suburbia" webpage
and noticed "The End (Is Coming)" but is that a sequel or just a special edition release of "The End of Suburbia"?

No, happily, there will be no lawsuits. LInkTV was granted permission to air clips from the documentary during an interview with Richard Heinberg. The interview/documentary is the actual content of the program that airs on October 5th. According to my contact at LinkTV, whoever set up the webpage misunderstood what the program was about and just posted the documentary's synopsis online. Still, I think it would be worth tuning in, whether you've seen EOS or not.

I have yet to see it, but I already know about the ramifications of peak oil and possible effects it will have on the suburbs here. Sprawl needs to go anyway, peak oil or no peak oil.
The unnecessary felling of a tree, perhaps the old growth of centuries, seems to me a crime little short of murder. ~Thomas Jefferson

Director Greg Greene is in Yellow Springs, Ohio this weekend shooting some foortage at the Community Solutions event. Right now, I estimate that he has enough material for a 3-part series. He expects to be done in late-spring of 2006.

I have had to opt out, due to commitments at my regular editing job, and having to deal with the day-to-day business surrounding EOS. Also, I'm "getting my house in order" on a personal level in anticipation of the coming Cl*sterf*ck. It would be silly if I got caught unprepared.

On the Way to the End of Suburbia

I decided to drive to Rockland to see The End of Suburbia on Tuesday night. It is about 80 miles from our house and I used my wife’s fuel efficient car to get there. When I got to the theatre there was a line to get tickets. I met a retired fellow in line who invited me back to his house for some tea before the show. He is disabled and gets around on an electric scooter. He and his wife live simply in a house surrounded by perennial gardens a few blocks from the middle of town. They moved there intentionally to be in a place where they could get around and be involved in the life of their community.

The movie was packed and the energy was awesome with people coming in their hybrid cars, talking solar, organic farming and conservation. The movie stunned and amazed most and the panel discussion afterwards with Matt Simmons, Maine Public Utilities Commission’s Sharon Reishus and Brownie Carson brought up some differences in approach to the impending energy predicament. Mr. Simmons stated that the world will want 125 million barrels per day by 2020, but may be getting only 70 million. Brownie told us about his hybrid car, and plugged windpower. Ms. Reishus talked about getting the Feds to pass legislation for energy efficiency.

As a teacher I believe that life teaches us lessons. Matt Simmons said that if you were to pick a place to live, Midcoast Maine is pretty good. Rockland has mass transit and was planned before the automobile, so you can get around easily. Life after peak oil is going to be a lot like the life of the couple I met. We won’t be driving around at all if the world only provides half as much oil as it does now per person. We will be like that couple, living in fuel efficient houses in walkable towns and participating in the life of those towns, if we’re lucky! :)

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('CarlinsDarlin', 'J')ust a heads-up!

On LINK-TV - DirecTV Channel 375 , Dish Network Channel 9410
Link-TV

Two important shows coming up:

First, On Saturday, October 1 @ 8 PM EST
The Oil Factor, Behind the war on terror

Second, On Sunday, October 2, @ 10 PM EST
End of Suburbia

I've looked for this listing, and found it on LinkTv, which also has future showings;

Monday, October 3 10:00 AM
Monday, October 3 4:00 PM
Thursday, October 6 8:00 PM
Friday, October 7 2:00 AM
Friday, October 7 8:00 AM
Friday, October 7 2:00 PM

DirecTv lists these spots generically as "Global Issues". And of course, this is a Heinburg show with excerpts from EOS.

I've arranged to visit a friend with DirecTv on Thursday night so that he can take the 'red pill'.

If you scroll down to November 8th, they're going to watch End of Suburbia and LATOC is on the recommended reading list.
Best,
Matt

Should I show my nice parents End of Suburbia over Xmas?

Postby crapattack » Wed 21 Dec 2005, 21:29:25

My really great parents are coming for Xmas. I really want to tell them about Peak Oil so we can all start making our plans. Should I tell them or wait until the holidays are over?

Why would you want to upset your parents?
Christmas is supposed to be a time of getting together with friends and family and having a good time
It is not about springing some end of the world bollocks on them.
