Diesel $3.75 gal.

I paid 2.79 per gallon today...

For diesel though. I topped of my VW and save 43 cents per gallon over gasoline at the local station.

$3.19 in St. Louis, Missouri, at the Quicktrip resting at the corner of Natural Bridge and Springdale...

The CITGO I buy my gas at is about 10 cents cheaper.

Link works better without the '/index.asp' part. But thanks anyway. My son still lives in Frederick. Fortunately/unfortunately his car has a blown motor, so he is car pooling at the moment. Still waiting to see if they are having any shortages in the area. Doesn't seem too bad at the moment.

I have only heard of shortages in some parts of Virginia, not near DC or Maryland. Reagan National and Dulles airports are running low on fuel supplies though.

The lowest price you can find here in London, Ontario is now $1.15/liter. That's a full 10 cents higher than the highest price you could find here a week ago! Highest prices are $1.389/liter.

Prices appear to be rising at 10-15 cents per day, for the time being.

$2.999/gal (89 octane) at every place in town now. Good thing I don't have to fill up until tuesday or wednesday, (then it will be down to 3/4 tank again). Filling up a half tank is just too much sticker shock. A whole tank is unthinkable. (Plus, the price chances WAY less in 3 days than it does in 2 weeks). Soon, I will be topping off my tank every day if this shit keeps up.

EDIT: What sucks is I renember going to Commiefornia and seeing $1.75 gallon gas, and I wondered why anyone bought it then. Hell, if there was a 1 day sale of $1.75 gasoline now, I would get 100 gallons of it!

This forum seems to be heating up and speaking for myself I can see why. Here in West Virginia things are spinning out of control as well. Yesterday morning on the way to a restaurant for breakfast I noticed a gas price on a local sign of 2.79/gal. I thought, I may as well stop in on the way home and get some as I was down to a quarter tank. 30 minutes later when I returned the prices had jumped .20 cents to 2.99/gal. Today I pass by and the price is 3.49/gal . We are talking regular gas here folks not some exotic hybrid aircraft quality racing fuel. A .70 cent jump in 2 days! I have two thoughts on the subject. First is that someone somewhere is sitting in a chair saying "raise the price per gallon" to which someone else passes the word down a long line of people all repeating his demand. I would seriously like to know who is this person? I know he is there because when you ask anyone why the price is going up all they can say is "I do what I'm told". Someone on the top of the heap is doing the telling. Secondly, when an emerging crisis is looming over the stock market they often suspend trading in the particular market to prevent an economic runaway. Why isn't this done when something as terrible as Katrina is looming over the nation? I guess economic disaster and loss of life have to take a back seat to pure greed. As for those foreign countries in OPEC who have made it their mission to bring America to it's knees or worse, I say let them eat the oil they so greedily manipulate. It seems that is the only thing they want from the USA so I suggest we give it to them the same way they stick it to us, connect the price of food to the price of the oil they want to sell us and see how long high oil prices last. One last item. Last night on the TV I saw a gas station in Viginia with a price for regular of 5.89/ gal. This guy seems to have declared war on everybody.

I heard that the wholesale price in the midwest was at $3.60, but I've checked prices online for several midwestern cities and very few stations are selling for more than $3.4X, and most are at $3.2X. Where can you look up regional wholesale rates?

Just because there is a disaster doesn't mean businesses should be forced to lose money. Many regular gas stations get their gasoline supplies from the spot market, which was very volatile in the week after Katrina with prices spiking nearly a $1 per gallon at times last week. An independent gas station owner cannot afford to hold prices steady when his costs increase significantly. Imagine how much money the owner would lose if he sold gasoline at a loss of $1 a gallon for just a week. That would wipe out his profits for the year. I understand your frustration at the rise in gasoline prices but the market sets the price which equalizes supply and demand.

This article offers the perfect lesson about the laws of supply and demand.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'H')ere and there are stories of flat-out craziness, such as when the T-Bird Mini Mart in Springfield, Vt., decided NOT to raise its gas prices.

T-Bird stopped raising its prices midday Wednesday at $2.60 a gallon while all the other gas stations around kept pushing their prices higher — until T-Bird was charging 30 cents a gallon less.

People started showing up from as far away as New Hampshire. Lines snaked through town. Neighboring businesses summoned police, who directed traffic for hours. So overwhelming was the traffic, says clerk Jason LaValley, "We had to raise (the price) to keep people away." The store was selling gasoline for $3.19 Wednesday night, more in line with the competition.
Here you go, gas station owner decides not to 'gouge', creates disaster. Gouging is good. Gouging is averting a national disaster.
