Are we all dead yet? I'm so confused. I keep expecting to be eaten alive by Ebola any minute. :?

Can't you get a more productive hobby, like yelling at clouds?

Suggestions:

I like to play chess against computers, watch "Dust" shorts and criticize the endings, and play along with Jeopardy on Netflix. It keeps me off the streets, fights senility, and doesn't bother anyone.

Edit: Sorry for the edits. Various typos, spelling errors from rapid typing, etc.
Given the track record of the perma-doomer blogs, I wouldn't bet a fast crash doomer's money on their predictions.

I watch Jeopardy twice a day with the wife. Its an interesting mental exercise.

But back to Ebola. I'm sure its a serious matter in countries where the men believe that having sex with a virgin can cure you of Aids. Not so much here.

The reason to watch Ebola is the possibility that it can mutate to airborne transmission. This occureenince with a strain that did not effect humans. It happened in Alexandria, Va in a primate research lab. Were it to occur with a human variant for the virus then things would get real interesting real quick.

Yep
Things are going worse:

Efforts to contain the DRC outbreak were hampered after violence related to December’s elections halted prevention work. About 30 health facilities were targeted by protesters in Beni, while efforts to trace anyone who has had contact with the virus were partially suspended due to security concerns.

From October to December, six cases were recorded daily across all affected areas in the east, but numbers are increasing, said Jean-Philippe Marcoux, Mercy Corps’ country director for DRC.

“Now it’s doubling – it’s very possible that it can double again,” said Marcoux. “If we don’t significantly increase the resources, it will keep increasing. It will spread progressively to other health areas and it will be there for a long time.”

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/0/long ... emergency/

The current outbreak of Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is now so severe it should be declared an international health emergency, experts have warned.
In an article in the Lancet medical journal a group of international lawyers has urged the World Health Organization to declare the situation a public health emergency of international concern, which they hope would shine an international spotlight on the outbreak, currently the second largest in history....

PEAK OIL!

So much red text in your posts on this thread over time. Are we all dead yet? Perhaps some context -- quote from your own link - last paragraphs of the article.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '
')This is the 10th outbreak of the disease in DRC, after being identified in what was then Zaire in 1976. But it is the first time that Ebola has been in the North Kivu region in the north east of the country.

Dr Ryan said that there was much distrust of the international community and even some health workers have refused the vaccine.

He said: “Participation of the community is crucial, without it tension and misunderstanding come in. The vast majority of the responders are local and we’re doing a tremendous amount of training.”

He added that standards of care had much improved during this outbreak thanks to the work of agencies such as Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and US-based Alliance for International Medical Action (Alima).

"Credit to MSF and Alima - standards of care are definitely rising.
We have intensive care specialists embedded in treatment centres and they provide extra assistance with managing patients. There is now improved hydration and monitoring of blood chemistry - the centres are more like intensive care units now," he said.

Blue font, mine, for emphasis. Clearly, Ebola outbreaks in this region are not new news. Hyperventilating not warranted.

And, there is both good and bad news here, and no, we're not quite all dead yet, despite the amount of bold red text you share, implying we should all panic.

...

Anti vaxxers might want to note -- here's a clear example where paranoia re vaccinations (orange text, again my my coloring) isn't helping. If we can't get some health care workers (who clearly should know better, assuming they have a meaningful amount of science training) for dangerous communicable diseases to get vaccinated, something needs to change.

https://africatimes.com/2019/02/15/baby ... la-threat/

The Ebola outbreak in Democratic Republic of Congo, now in its seventh month, has spread to another health zone, making it 19 locations in all with this new case reported in Bunia in the conflict-prone Ituri province.
“The case of Bunia is the 6-month-old baby of a woman from Katwa who fled to Bunia and whose dead body was intercepted in Komanda,” said the country’s Ministry of Health. The baby was transferred to the care center in Komanda, an Ituri town where there have been 33 cases and 17 confirmed fatalities....

I do find myself wondering if those few who recover from Ebola have an immunity to later outbreaks. If so is it a lifetime immunity or does it wear off in a few years like tetanus?

Yes, and you make zero content posts when you get cranky, everyone knows that.

If you don’t like his posting style then just ignore his posts.

Outcast, ditto. I understand the big red font issue is annoying. I tolerate it because I find the content valuable. If it annoyed me enough I would simply avoid the thread. He is not making ad hominem’s and calling names.

Ebola simply can't get a foothold outside of the places that it originates. Its a failure of a disease in that respect. Influenza is much more successful if we are talking about death dealing organisms.
