Must not forget RUSH. Three men on a stage have never produced so much tight, power packed, live rock and roll.
Stop filling dumpsters, as much as you possibly can, and everything will get better.

Just think it through.
It's not hard to do.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('oowolf', 't')he Shaggs
You've got to be kidding. The Shaggs?

http://www.shaggs.com/

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'G')oing into the recording studio was all my father's idea. We didn't feel like we were ready yet; we didn't feel that we knew that much about music. We were just getting started. He gave is a lot of support. He backed us up all the way.
It's true! Those three girls weren't ready.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', ' ')"Maybe the best worst rock album ever made." - New York Times

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'W')hen I first heard The Shaggs album Philosophy of the World, I wondered how this music could've been recorded and distributed. The music was so hilariously bad. The singers simply could not sing, much less harmonize, and not once on the entire record did the drummer manage to bang a drum on beat. Besides that, The Shaggs sang about things like a lost pets ("Foot Foot"), Halloween, and their parents. I assumed the album was some kind of joke.

I also had that sudden urge two weeks ago and ordered Miles Davis' Bitches Brew as well as Big Fun. I used to have the LP's (Big Fun is a real rare on). Absolute timeless music. Simply the best!

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('killJOY', 'O')h my God... Led Zeppelin and Yes???

I'm having difficulty reading this thread without getting a contact high.

At one point in time, I understand Jimmy Paige and Chris Squire (Yes bassist) were rehearsing for awhile, but nothing came of it. Sure would like to hear those old studio tapes. Betcha Chris still has them...

Albente, ever heard of the extended Bitches Brew session tapes? There was a lot more than they put onto that album that became available. What a strange and fascinating kind of music. I don't know why 'acid jazz' came to be what it is, but Davis' stuff is the true Acid Jazz. 8O

Never heard of the extended Bitches Brew until I received Big Fun today (!) and noticed that there were additional tracks on the disc. Only then I started reading the text on the cover where they mentioned those extended tracks, simply by throwing them on Big Fun.

I always liked Big Fun since it is such absurd music. It was a neglected album when released in 1974 and now I know why they added those tracks on from Bitches Brew - the same pattern! This is not music for the average consumer!

The extended Bitches Brew is more than just a few extra tracks. Hours and hours of more tracks is more like it. All of it the same kind of mind blowing, hallucinatory jazz. They cut it way down for the album which was a big comeback for Miles Davis. A smash hit in the only decade when stuff like that could have ever been a hit: the 60s.

Frank Zappa recorded Hot Rats in 1969. Great recording, too!

re: shaggs. just threw it in to see if anyone was paying attention. The kind of stuff for those with a John Waters-like taste for the truly tasteless.

Meh, not for me.

To my ear, the only lasting, timeless sound to come out of the '70s was ... Bob Marley.

Except for some of Jimi Hendrix, all that "classic" rock just sounds like showy, preachy guitar wanking to me - maybe you had to be there.

Well, I grew up in the 60s. I'm downloading Dylan music for my son. Have any of you younger folks ever checked out what Bob Dylan did? Its in a category of its own and still moves me after all these years. Check out Tombstone Blues and Desolation Row.

cool lyrics, too:

While one who sings with his tongue on fire
Gargles in the rat race choir
Bent out of shape from society's pliers
Cares not to come up any higher
But rather get you down in the hole
That he's in.

I started the music lyrics posting thing many months ago with Dylan's Ballad Of Hollis Brown, the ultimate scary Peak Oil lyrics:

Hollis Brown
He lived on the outside of town
Hollis Brown
He lived on the outside of town
With his wife and five children
And his cabin fallin' down

You looked for work and money
And you walked a rugged mile
You looked for work and money
And you walked a rugged mile
Your children are so hungry
That they don't know how to smile

Your baby's eyes look crazy
They're a-tuggin' at your sleeve
Your baby's eyes look crazy
They're a-tuggin' at your sleeve
You walk the floor and wonder why
With every breath you breathe

The rats have got your flour
Bad blood it got your mare
The rats have got your flour
Bad blood it got your mare
If there's anyone that knows
Is there anyone that cares?

You prayed to the Lord above
Oh please send you a friend
You prayed to the Lord above
Oh please send you a friend
Your empty pockets tell yuh
That you ain't a-got no friend

Your babies are crying louder
It's pounding on your brain
Your babies are crying louder now
It's pounding on your brain
Your wife's screams are stabbin' you
Like the dirty drivin' rain

Your grass it is turning black
There's no water in your well
Your grass is turning black
There's no water in your well
You spent your last lone dollar
On seven shotgun shells

Way out in the wilderness
A cold coyote calls
Way out in the wilderness
A cold coyote calls
Your eyes fix on the shotgun
That's hangin' on the wall

Your brain is a-bleedin'
And your legs can't seem to stand
Your brain is a-bleedin'
And your legs can't seem to stand
Your eyes fix on the shotgun
That you're holdin' in your hand

There's seven breezes a-blowin'
All around the cabin door
There's seven breezes a-blowin'
All around the cabin door
Seven shots ring out
Like the ocean's pounding roar

There's seven people dead
On a South Dakota farm
There's seven people dead
On a South Dakota farm
Somewhere in the distance
There's seven new people born
