You can't escape Stairway! Admit it the tune is going through your head right now!

There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
And when she gets there she knows if the stores are closed
With a word she can get what she came for

Woe oh oh oh oh oh
And she's buying a stairway to heaven

In'65 I pompously declared them a white man rip of great Delta blues music. In '94 I pompously declared them the greatest rock band in history. I listen to Stairway once month by way of doing penance.

I've been thinking this over and weighing it carefully.

Led Zeppelin's version of "Stairway to Heaven" is really good but in the end I think that the version by Tiny Tim will be the one remembered in the future.

That and "Tiptoe through the tulips" of course.

Stairway To Heaven is OK the first 150 times you hear it, but after that it starts to get on your nerves. Never heard Tiny Tim's version. Damn!

But Linlithgow, tell us how you really feel about them. :)

Jimmy Page is actually a very good guitarist.

When I hear songs like Dazed & Confused & When the Levy Breaks, I wonder if they knew when they recorded those songs how much they kicked fuckin ass.

BTW, Jimmy Page had to have sold his soul to the devil in order to make such incredible albums. No mortal is capable of such otherwise.

Damn good band, and a precursor to "Metal" which no one in the hallowed Delta ever imagined. Stairway is so overdone I can't listen to it, but some of their stuff is SO great, and hardly ever heard, they're really a great band.

Now the Beatles, that was a bunch of twats playing crap

A few years ago WHRB (the Harvard student station) had a Jimmy Page "orgy" - many, many hours of his playing. The really amazing part was how many famous songs of the earlier part of the 60's he played on. Too bad I was in the car for it and couldn't tape it.

Actually, the only band worthy of mention from that era was "Little Feat"

The rest were a bunch of twats playing crap  (thread motto)

Well, my favorite band, and I'm thankful they still performing after 35+ years, is YES.

Drove all the way to Denver, CO from near Austin, TX and back last September, 2004, to see YES at the Red Rocks Amphitheater, and I averaged 60 mpg in my hybrid Honda Insight on that round trip. Spent $68 on gasoline.
Great show. The Roger Dean designed stage and lighting reminded me of their '70's shows.
They're not dead yet!

:)
