Gas siphoning

Postby PenultimateManStanding » Wed 06 Jul 2005, 18:19:44

Was just thinking, now that oil is pushing $62 and rising, that gas prices will be bound to go up too. I could just see going out to my car in the morning to find someone has pried off my gas cap cover and siphoned my gas. There's lines at the gas station so I can't get to work. What to do? One idea is to keep my gas in a gas can and leave my tank empty at night. Only pour it in as needed. Another idea is to buy an electric scooter and use that to go to work. Afterall, if there is an economic depression, there will still be schools until the world crashes and burns.

For all you youngsters who did not live through the last "gas crisis" - this is no joke.

I had a large pickup/camper locked inside a chain link fence with three rows of barbed wire on top during the last crisis. Thieves somehow got over the wire and sucked it dry.

I'm old enough too, and gas siphoning was a grand old art. Kids with any "street sense" at all knew how to do it by the time they were 12, and no one, I said NO ONE, went without a locking cap.

My car, like lots of cars nowadays, has gas cap under a cover which can only be opened by a lever under the front seat. It seems, though, that a crow bar might be pried in enough to get some leverage and break it open. This is the kind of crap you gotta worry about pretty soon. Maybe taking Rons suggestion and putting a locking cap on it would give a double protection good enough to secure the precious liquid in the tank. I dunno.

Once gas hits 3 i'm buying a locking/explosive gas cap..makes sense that it explodes considering i only have liability and the house will probably catch on fire :(

If it does happen: The next day, fill up your gas tank enough so that it can be siphoned with some effort. Then lie in wait for the perpetrator to come back that night. Work in 4 hour shifts if nessecary, and camoflauge yourself to blend in with your surroundings. Once you catch them, start videotaping immediatly, (preferably with an IR capable recorder), and turn on the floodlights. After you have the area lit up like a christmas tree, order them to set down thier arms, and surrender. If they refuse to do so, firea a warnining shot into the air, and inform them that you are prepared to use any force nessecary to secure the perimeter, including lethal force. If they surrender, call the cops, and restrain them until they are taken under arrest. If they refuse to surrender, eliminate the hostilities. Just renember, don't shoot if they are unarmed, and don't shoot if they surrender.

You need to calm the fuck down. Somebody wants some gas, for Christ's sake give them some fucking gas. What is this, fucking Mad Max? Chill!

Fucking shoot people over gas. Je3eeeezus. Secure the perimiter. It's $9 worth of gas, think about how much time you're gonna spend in court, and you STILL gotta hose off the driveway.

Fuckin A.

Also, "$9.00 of gas". If it is such a piddily amount, they can just knock on my door and ask me for 3 gallons outright. I may want a pack of smokes or a beer, (or at least a thank you), in exchage for the gasoline, so they can get to town, but if they are going to seal from me, I personally consider that a violent crime, and I will use any and all force nessecary to stop that crime in progress. As you are probably aware, homicide is justifiable if it is used to stop a violent crime. Hell, if they are willing to cut through 3 biarb wire fences, evade my motion lights, and somehow manage not to wake up my dog, then it is time that lethal force is used. I will use the nessecary force to secure my domicile. No more, and no less.

I can't rely on the police. The last time I called them, it took them 45 miniutes to get out here. By the time they responded, I already had concentra across the driveway on a fishing line trigger. It was strung just right that anything attempting to cross would have broken the line, and the inturder would have been wrapped up in about 75 yards of razor sharp wire. I will use the reasonable amount of force to secure my property. If the fence is cut, the motion lights are not triggered, and my dog is not alerted, it is time to take matters into Mr. Colt's hands. (unless they surrender, or are verified to be unarmed).

Geeze semler! You're not allowed to detain them like that, you're allowed to run 'em off and get a locking cap, though.

Homicide -- By other person -- When justifiable.

Homicide is also justifiable when committed either:

(1) In the lawful defense of the slayer, or his or her husband, wife, parent, child, brother, or sister, or of any other person in his presence or company, when there is reasonable ground to apprehend a design on the part of the person slain to commit a felony or to do some great personal injury to the slayer or to any such person, and there is imminent danger of such design being accomplished; or

I was born more than a decade after the gas crisis began, and I don't think it's a jopke at all.

Adjusted for inflation, in the late 70s, gas spiked at the equivalent of $4.50 a gallon today. Peak oil could make the 70s look like the 90s cheap gas bonanza, if you can even get gas to begin with.

Quite honetly, I am almost ashamed to say what I would do to get gasoline if I requred it for transportation. I'm not even going to hint at what I may resort to, it is way in excess of reasonable force being applied.

Maybe its best that you modify your transportation to not require gasoline.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('The_Toecutter', 'M')aybe its best that you modify your transportation to not require gasoline.

My choices for transportation are the following:

1. Automobile
2 Bicycle
3. Walk
4. Horse
5. Mule

While options 2 and 3 are adequate for transportation within a couple miles, 4 and 5 are only an option for long distance travel if I don't mind taking a day to travel to town. Considering I work 16 miles away, this would be inadequate at best, and impossible in the worst situations. Realistically, unless I was in no great rush to get to town, (and if I packed up for a week at a time), going by pack animal would be out of the question. If I am ever forced to use my horse to get to town, I would basically be rendered to a vagrant life. Not my idea of the way I want to live. I like heating, air conditioning, and hot food on demand. Plus, where the hell would I hitch up a horse in town anyway? Pullman isn't exactly Elk City.

You didn't seem to get my point. Who says you need gasoline to fuel an automobile? Electricity, Biodiesel, or Straight Vegetable Oil could do just as well.
