Gas siphoning

What's on your mind?
General interest discussions, not necessarily related to depletion.

Have any of you tried to siphon gas from a new vehicle, locking gas cap or not. New from probably late nineties on. Might be earlier than that. I think they told me it was something the car manufactors did after all the gas siphoning from the 80's and that crisis.

I was told you can't do it. Something to do with the way the gas pipe to the tank is designed. I might be wrong. I think they told me there was some sort of screen or cross hatched metal or something that kept a tube of any size going from going down into the tank.

AND FRANK,

Nunchucks, as a self defense item. Not from where I come from. First you got to learn them. Second they aren't that good of a weapon.

The man most people associate with them Bruce Lee, didn't think much of them. Really.

Lots of people think because of Hollywood etc. they are bad ass. But if you are a martial artist then getting inside of them is not a problem.

I can take off my belt and keep you at bay. You're not going to risk loosing the weapon on a bad strike. If you do strike the odds are the belt will be used and it will then become up close and personal. It will then go to the ground.

Want to win fights, learn how to fight on the ground. Or know how to put the other person there first.

For women I suggest learning Kali. Its a Phillipino Martial art (can see it now in Hawiaa). Very good.

For Men, I suggest Kali.

Then everyone should learn grappling techiniques. Indonesia has a great grappling art. Then there are the "boys from Brazil" and their grappling. The Gracie (not sure if speeling is correct) family has devised one of the most brutal, effective forms of grappling ever.

though I doubt few will find an instructor. Even if you do he may be "self taught" and not really have permission to teach.

I was very lucky and had a great sifu, kuru with direct lineage from the master of my art.

"jeet kune do".

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('The_Toecutter', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'M')y choices for transportation are the following:

1. Automobile
2 Bicycle
3. Walk
4. Horse
5. Mule

While options 2 and 3 are adequate for transportation within a couple miles, 4 and 5 are only an option for long distance travel if I don't mind taking a day to travel to town. Considering I work 16 miles away, this would be inadequate at best, and impossible in the worst situations. Realistically, unless I was in no great rush to get to town, (and if I packed up for a week at a time), going by pack animal would be out of the question. If I am ever forced to use my horse to get to town, I would basically be rendered to a vagrant life. Not my idea of the way I want to live. I like heating, air conditioning, and hot food on demand. Plus, where the hell would I hitch up a horse in town anyway? Pullman isn't exactly Elk City.

You didn't seem to get my point. Who says you need gasoline to fuel an automobile? Electricity, Biodiesel, or Straight Vegetable Oil could do just as well.

I would like to see you power a 1981 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Coupe with electricy or vegetable oil. The last time I checked, a 305 cannot run on desiel or fuel substitutes. It needs gasoline to fuel the engine.

Yes, it is difficult. But it is nothing a 3 foot long prybar can't resolve easily. Whn my 1989 Ford Mustang LX bit the dust, it had this anti-theft device on it. I just opened the fuel door, and inserted the prybar. Then I just pulled up < (away from center of earth), and the anti-theft bend was defedted. After that, it was very simple to siphon the gasoline out of the tank. The only tool you need to get by this measue is a 3 foot long pry bar made of tempered steel. And if that fails, just unbolt the feed tube, and insert your tube there. It is not really to difficult to bypass. Also, for the locking gas cap, a 3/4 inch drill is your best friend.

Well, K

I knew for sure if there was a way around it, you would know how to do it.

O trust me if I am desperate I can ususally find a way.

However I think the others know now that a garden hose and a can is not going to get them anywhere.

thanks for the info,

add three foot crowbar to my list. my 20 incher is NO GOOD>

and by the way, the story of how I learned about not being able to siphon gas is as good if not better than your story on how to get out of a traffic ticket using a candle to light your dashboard at night.

It involved the desert, route 66, a meteor crater, and a lady with the license plate " river queen" holding a 48 pointed at me thru the door of her late model Lincoln. (I didn't know about the gun until she told me later). This was after the Japanese guy riding the Harely across the country on his trip back from New Jersey on the route. Seems he had a spare liter of gas in a plastic coke bottle in his saddle bags.

Life ain't fair, but sometimes it turns out alright.

And soon we will need to think about how to siphon hydrogen and electricity as well! :-D

Remove the 305 and put in its place either a 200 horsepower turbodiesel from a VW Jetta, or an electric motor and a bank of batteries. Depends on how much money you care to spend(or have available to spend). You don't necessarily need to use a 1981 Oldsmobile for that matter. Ever consider a Datsun 1200 minitruck? That would make an excellent electric. Get a wind generator or solar array and you'll be able to keep fueling it to your whim whenever it's parked and use it for local trips(Depending on the range you go for. 100 miles range on cheap lead acid batteries is doable).

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('PenultimateManStanding', 'M')y car, like lots of cars nowadays, has gas cap under a cover which can only be opened by a lever under the front seat. It seems, though, that a crow bar might be pried in enough to get some leverage and break it open. This is the kind of crap you gotta worry about pretty soon. Maybe taking Rons suggestion and putting a locking cap on it would give a double protection good enough to secure the precious liquid in the tank. I dunno.

You guys have to take your thinking to the next level. Want to protect your money? Sure get the locking gas cap if it makes you feel better, but you've got to ask yourself, "Who the $#@! makes locking gas caps, and why don't I have any money invested in that company?"

Also, think about who manufactures programmable thermostats as fuel oil and natural gas prices rise to new records this year...

Just to answer my own questions:
1. Stant, a Tomkins Company... Tomkins ordinary shares are listed on the London Stock Exchange under the symbol TOMK and also trade in ADR form (each equal to four ordinary shares) on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol TKS.

2. Honeywell (NYSE: HON)

Joe

Now may be the time to buy them as the stock price has leveled off and when keeping that gas in the tank becomes a major issue we may be on a mjor up swing. :-D

semler - 16 mi. is not bad at all for an experienced bicycle rider, but it takes some time and work to build up to it. You could trade off bike and horse, as you and your horse both get used to the trip. Your recovery days would be his/her training days lol.

Depending on how much you have to carry, supply of hay etc., you may find yourself on a bike more effecient than the horse. It looked like the bike was going to put a lot of horses out of work until the car came along and did that.
