All good comments.

But I'll fess up & admit...

...I have a secret.

The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

Aah, Aaron do you have a "secret" financial backer or what?

Anyway, I voted Not Sure when this thread started, but having followed this thread I'm more inclined to say yes.

Assuming you rely on voluntary or half-voluntary writers, I wonder whether a monthly would be too ambitious: initial enthusiasm can wane. A quarterly, well produced would be far better.

I would subscribe if it is not too expensive (like less than $US 7 per number for a quarterly).

Go back and read what I wrote:

". . . money-losing endeavor. Which is fine if you've got somebody to fund it or it's a labor of love and you don't mind losing some money."

Well of course it's a labour of love, I don't think you should even look at the work Aaron etc. have done with PO.com in cash terms - 'twas ever thus. It's also not beyond the impossible for us all here to chip in, say, 50 bucks each to get the magazine going.

Just an idea, anyhow. That would get around the problems you're talking about. Fund it as a group for 18 months & then see how he goes from there...

That's the wonderful thing about the internet. Aaron probably started this thread with the biggest shit faced grin on his face ever and we never knew.

Better lay off that apple jack when you're online, Pops. Either that or those epaulettes they pinned to your shoulders are going to your head.

I got it! That could be an article for the magazine! Using the winter cold to produce your own ethanol fuel! The title could be "Applejack, it gets you were you're going!"

How about just "Booze: An Essential Ingredient of Life, Especially Post-PO."

Steam, it's a truly amazing coincidence: I just finished watching "Spiderman 2" on Fox (and doing housework during the endless commercial breaks). Great flick!

Then I went online and saw your pic of the nutty Jamieson.

I didn’t know those went on my shoulders; I thought they were patches for my britches!

Better not go out in public with those britches on, Pops. Might cause some tittering.

Sorry I forgot the smiley face when I teased you above.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Heineken', 'H')ow about just "Booze: An Essential Ingredient of Life, Especially Post-PO."
Seriously! Like in the thread about "The big Sleep" where we discussed a history article about how people traditionally in Europe would get settled in for the winter, drink lots of beer and sleep. And like during the collapse of the soviet union, for a time liquor was money. Alcohol can make water potable, can be traded as money, used as fuel, there is higher demand when people are stressed... No doubt booze will play a big role Post-PO.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Heineken', 'S')team, it's a truly amazing coincidence: I just finished watching "Spiderman 2" on Fox (and doing housework during the endless commercial breaks). Great flick!

I was just thinking of an article a Peak Magazine could cover.

No bread on the shelves

I know I'd buy a magazine that covers trends like this and I think a lot of other people would too.

A number of people here expressed the interest in writing or helping out with a "Peak Oil Magazine". I got a letter today from a Dubai company looking for oil and gas writers, some of you might want to check it out.

I'd love to subscribe to Peak Oil magazine. I want a hard copy to pass on to friends who think I'm nuts. This way I can show them that I may be nuts, but I'm not alone!

Seriously, sign me up!

Starting a peak oil magazine when gas just went under $2.00 a gallon is not the greatest business move in the world.

Is it time to revive this project? It seemed like a sure winner when it was brought up but then Aaron had to stop posting so much with a new baby and all and the idea just sort of fizzled out.

Imagine an angel with deep pockets and suddenly cold feet...

I still have room in my bank account tho...
In fact I can now say I have about 4 years experience producing a semi-monthly print magazine, too!

If you're thinking about an actual analog birdcage liner, getting a decent rep to sell space is the biggest hurdle, without ad sales you're back looking for an angel with them deep pockets. A digital adjunct to PO.com might be interesting but it would also need revenue and I do't know how to get money out of what we already do better than anyone else -for free

lol!
