$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Lore', 'H')i there Heineken ole buddy!
I have to agree... the failure of the postal system is just one more arrow in the back of the average citizen and a real scalping to those who live in rural America. Internet connections are barely existent out here in the hinterland along with decent cell phone service, (watch for land lines next to be cut). You have a whole group of people who will essentially be cut off from essential and reliable communication and any chance at all of keeping up with more metropolitan areas.
Hi Lore!
Yes, we still don't have access to "cable" out here and probably never will. I rely on a slightly clunky satellite service for my Internet. I don't bother with satellite for TV, though, since TV is hardly worth it. Get my TV free from the air just as I always have. The switch to DTV was and remains a pain, though---we have periodic crises of weird reception (another example of things getting worse, at least for the 99%). You're right, land lines are definitely on the way out. We got a letter from Verizon not long ago saying that they will no longer maintain the wires. My elderly mother has a land line but I was forced to get a cell phone.
I have zero interest in most electronic gadgets, including all those Apple toys and damned Kindles. I don't think they make our lives better. I like the old.
The loss of the USPS will make rural areas even more isolated and underserved than they already are. Hmm . . . maybe that's not such a bad thing!
