Its really horrifying when you think about it what it means, but.. half the people have IQ's less than 100.

That is true only about a few Caucasian and Mongoloid sub-races, for the most peoples the picture is much more dire. An average IQ in Ecuatorial Guinea, for example, is 59. Most African countries don't go above 70, and yes, half of the people have less than that

I'll be sure and light a candle in remembrance of your martyrdom at the hands of the basketball and/or race car aficionados. Though I might have been in the bleachers doing my best "woot woot" imitation at the time.

And Pretorian... while I'm not convinced those are valid IQ measurements (seeming to violate the definition of the test, with 100 as median), if those numbers are true, they indicate deliberate extermination of intelligent people. Which would change my "keep your head down" comment, to "keep your F..... Head DOWN and your pie hole SHUT. [optional expletive]" ! 8O smart and dead is not a useful goal.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('vision-master', 'N')o, the problem stems from management...

That's another things that needs to be addressed; though It's more like management is composed of some of the pettiest, small-minded, authoritarian, obstructive, kiss up/kick down, generally unpleasant people that one would ever have to deal with. I seriously wonder what-in-the-blue-hell is wrong with school administrators. I have a few theories, which I will list (in no particular order):

1. These are the people who couldn't hack it in the classroom; but didn't want to leave the security of the school , so they become administrators.

2. The adminstrators realise that they can't solve any real problems; so they turn little things/non-issues into big deals to show how important and powerful they are.

3. They have to kowtow to the parents; so they don't back up the teachers.

4. It's the old story about a little power going to a person's head. Small name/big ego.

5. They are so used to dealing with kids that they talk to everyone that way.

It could be a combination of all those factors, but dealing with these people would do a lot to solve some of the problems in education.

Nutrition and IQ are connected. If you were raised on potato chips, that might have something to do with your cognitive ability. Whatever the cause, the differences are clearly discernable. Still, some of the best and brightest burn out because of attention deficit and boredom.

I lost a redneck kid this year. His scores were in the stratosphere but his behavior and truancy were uncontrollable.

How is that hypocritical? He thinks the public schools are terrible. He wants to fix the public schools.

He also loves his children. That’s why he won’t subject them to the local government-run schools. 8) Wouldn’t you do the same?

Its not so much that, as they way he responded to the question. :| I really don't give a rat's @%# if he does send his kids to public or private school, but there are better ways for a public official to respond to someone's question.

If I were a public official and someone asked me, I think my response would be, "Hxxx no, I'm not sending my kids to those gang infested, child destroying, sorry excuses for a prison.".

As horrible as the public Idiot Factories are, the thought of putting the control of the Idiot Factories into the hands of profit-driven private businesses is mind-numbing. 8O

If you’re unhappy with your private school, you can send your children elsewhere.

If you’re unhappy with the government school, you can’t do anything about it.

Which one has a stronger incentive to provide high quality education?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Tyler_JC', 'I')f you’re unhappy with the government school, you can’t do anything about it.

Unless you are a politician, in which case you could send your kids to the government school, and try and make the school do a decent job. Though it is a lot easier and more profitable to keep cutting budgets and standards to churn out cheap stupid labour, then send your own kids to a private school. You don't really want those plebs competing for limited resources, or for your kid to be one of them.

What is that supposed to mean? Are you saying that "high" school budgets are able to churn out something other than cheap stupid labour?
