$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Quinny', 'S')o who would have won. :(

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('wisconsin_cur', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('uNkNowN ElEmEnt', 'I') think we should pick the first city that someone on the list chose to go up, not the nearest city. Its not the same thing. So the winner would be the first of our choices even if in all it was the 5th city to go up world wide.

Might get some to pick other cities instead of having 6 LA's and 5 Atlanta's etc. And it would keep the bets going longer instead of already calling a winner.

Far enough, You changed my mind. What you said.

Don't worry, I still like your chances :)

Im betting on New Orleans. It was the murder capitol for 2 yrs running folks seem pretty quick to shoot down there and they r still hurting from Kat. so their infrastructure and ability to respond to another emergency is already weak at best. And city unemployment is 6.3%

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'V')iolent unrest may be sparked around the world by a prolonged global slump unless governments act with greater urgency to jump-start stalled economies, the head of the International Monetary Fund said on Monday.

Dominique Strauss-Kahn sounded a stark warning over the consequences of what he argued was weak and uncertain government reaction to the economic crisis. He used a hard-hitting speech in Madrid to single out eurozone nations over what he attacked as an inadequate response.

The broadside from the IMF's managing director came as fears over a protracted global recession, and political fallout, mounted after China said that its factories' output registered the weakest growth in almost a decade last month.

Not sure one could easily tell if New Orleans is rioting. How much would the shooting have to bump up to count?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('StormBringer', 'I')m betting on New Orleans.

No. After the government services in New Orleans dried up (no pun intended) the potential rioters filtered out of New Orleans into surrounding areas like mine, or never went back.

Global riots on the horizon

Unread postby vision-master » Wed 28 Jan 2009, 14:18:32

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '[')url=http://www.russiatoday.com/media/news/3/49802df8e7e6a.jpg]jpg[/url]Crisis Chronicle, January 28, 2009, 12:19:
Storm of global riots on the horizon
This year will see a major economic breakdown followed by worldwide riots, as people who have lost everything rebel against the situation, where those in power save themselves at the expense of everyone else.

This is according to the forecast by Gerald Celente of The Trends Research Institute, New York, who successfully predicted the panic of 2008. The global crisis will only get worse according to Celente and turn into the greatest depression in modern history.

He compares the world economy with the cruise liner Titanic. The ship is sinking, he says, and spaces on the lifeboats are few. Even now people who suffered from the global crisis are ready to resort to violence, as the reports from Iceland, Latvia and Lithuania indicate. As the meltdown continues, the situation will only get worse.

I'm not saying he's wrong, but I'll believe it when I see it. I think many of these prognosticators are right (Celente, Schiff, Mish), but their timing obviously can't be perfect for many reasons.

On the other hand, the US government is doing everything it can to prepare for civil unrest in the USA: HR 645 which authorizes public detention camps, Army War College papers which state the military should prepare to redirect its operations domestically against US citizens during civil unrest, and the deployment of US troops inside the USA under NorthCom (joint Northern Command of Canadian, US and Mexican militaries).

I've heard about that. That they are actually broken down into a blue and red group (one to be rounded up before and one after martial law). Anyway, do you have a link about that maybe? I've never seen that documented, only hearsay.

In those videos of Paris it looks really cold outside. I think we'll see the real riots start when it turns warm. I wouldn't like to be in any big city when millions of people realize that they have no prospects for employment.

Here in the US I'm betting on LA, Chicago and NYC to have trouble when the weather heats up.

Here's a piece that I read last year, but could still happen:

French Peasants Storming the Bastille

Unread postby ReverseEngineer » Fri 30 Jan 2009, 02:20:39

Look like we have the Big Stuff in the Big Western Capitals starting with our Passionate Friends the Parisians. Millions are Rioting in France.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'P')rotesters in the French capital clashed with police, throwing bottles and overturning cars.
Unions are upset at the government's handling of the global economic crisis - and claim President Nicolas Sarkozy needs to do more for ordinary workers.
The strike action earlier saw bus, rail and air travel disrupted across the country.
Unions said 2.5 million people took part in dozens of rallies across France, including 300,000 in Paris.
Police put the figure at just over a million nationwide.

BBC Video

Sarkozy doesn't seem particularly moved and vows to continue his "reforms" (aka Bank Bailouts). Methinks the French Goobermint won't last too long. How long before the American Sheeple get going here?

Probably a while. Truth is, the French hit the streets with strikes and protests at the slightest infringement on workers' rights. And it serves them well.. the French worker has, guaranteed by law, more benefits and rights than the average American could ever dream of.

We can argue until the cows come home about the long-term effects of a society whose benefits are geared toward the working class. Up until now, France has done just fine. Even though they work much less than us, their productivity per worker is higher. Their debt to GDP ratio is comparable to us, not as bad as Spain.

One thing I can say.. if TS were to HTF, the French would have a very hard time adjusting to even an American lifetstyle, much less something worse.
