Apocalypse by 2040? Shock as MIT computer model predicts END DATE for civilisation
A COMPUTER MODEL developed in 1973 by a team of MIT researchers has predicted the “end of civilised life as we know it” by 2040, with a major change coming in 2020 – just two years away from now.
An apocalyptic computer model, processed by one of the world’s largest computers in 1973, has predicted the end of civilization by 2040.
The prediction came from a programme nicknamed World One, which was developed by a team of MIT researchers and processed by Australia’s largest computer.
It was originally devised by computer pioneer Jay Forrester, after he was tasked by the Club of Rome to develop a model of global sustainability.
However, the shocking result of the computer calculations showed that the level of pollution and population would cause a global collapse by 2040.
This shows that the world cannot sustain the current level of population and industrial growth for more than two decades.
Australian broadcaster ABC has republished its original report from the 1970s, since there is just two years until a major change is expected according to the computer model.
The model based its predictions on trends such as pollution levels, population growth, availability of natural resources and quality of life on earth.
The eerie calculation has been remarkably accurate in certain predictions, such as a stagnated quality of life and diminishing pool of natural resources.

A fascinating forecast shows that the quality of life is expected to drop dramatically right after 2020.
At this time the broadcasters addreses the audience: “At around 2020, the condition of the planet becomes highly critical.
“If we do nothing about it, the quality of life goes down to zero. Pollution becomes so seriously it will start to kill people, which in turn will cause the population to diminish, lower than it was in the 1900.
“At this stage, around 2040 to 2050, civilised life as we know it on this planet will cease to exist.”

Alexander King, a British pioneer who led the Club of Rome, also made a shocking prediction regarding national sovereignty.
He told ABC: “Sovereignty of nations is no longer absolute. There is a gradually diminishing of sovereignty, little bit by little bit. Even in the big nations, this will happen.”

From the European chart it is notable that the two Islamic countries (Albania and Turkey) appear to come in at substantially lower IQ levels than the North European countries. If the SHTF and yoke of Jewish domination is removed, our people should easily dominate any Muslims living in our countries. Millimind, all mathematical models rest on assumptions. It is the only way of setting up input parameters for the model.
When I run heat transfer models (mostly fire models), I have to make assumptions on all sorts of things, like the type of steel being used in a building, its thermal properties and how they change w.r.t temperature; strength-vs-temperature; the amount of ventilation provided to the compartment; the thermal and heat transfer properties of the air; the correct convective heat transfer correlations to use; the absorptivity and emissivity of the surfaces and how they change with temperature and soot contamination; the fuel loading; the stoichiometric ratio- the list is huge.
It then all goes into a finite time-step model that gives me the answers I need. But the validity of those answers depends entirely on the input assumptions. Garbage in, garbage out. Worse still, with iterative models, the effect of errors in input parameters can be iterative, leading to growing errors with time, leading to rapid divergence of the model from reality. It isn’t always easy to spot these errors and their presence is not always self-evident in the output data.
The models being discussed here are for entire planetary systems and are necessarily far more complex. And the assumptions made on the availability of resources, energy intensity, response of planetary systems to stresses, technological innovation, the response of human systems and institutions, etc., are all far more uncertain. This doesn’t make the models entirely useless, but one should be aware that these are not intended to be accurate predictors of the future. They are tools to inform debate and give us some idea as to how close we may be to planetary limits.

I suggest you borrow LTG from your library or download it, and read it. Then you will have personal knowledge and understanding of the assumptions involved. It is impossible to dispute the ultimate premise behind Limits to Growth; that growing consumption of resources in a finite environment is necessarily temporary. It is simply a logical truism that is impossible to deny; the same logic that tells us that a finite plate of food will not go on feeding us forever.
We can understand this limit clearly and no one is stupid enough to deny it. I am frequently amused by how much effort corporate interests have made over the years trying to deny such a fundamentally undeniable fact – that there are limits to achievable and maintainable production and consumption, in a finite space with finite resources. What exactly do they not understand?
The LTG was basically an attempt to put some quantitative values on how far we can take our growth based system on a finite planet. Again I stress, we can argue about the numbers attributed to limits; the date at which we hit specific problems; the societal responses; the effect of adaptations, etc. But the basic existence of limits is undebatable. There is only so much cropland on the Earth. Only a limited stock of metals like copper, iron, zinc, etc.
As a species, our evolution has been all about increasing the amount of energy that we can harvest and deploy to do useful work. In one way or another, that is the essence of all life. We use energy to take various materials that grow or are dug out of the ground and use more energy to rework them into goods and services that we call wealth. This is the essence of the biophysical view of the human economy. It is why a plot of global GDP against energy use produces a virtually straight line.
Of course, those resources come in different grades. High grades can be turned into what we need with less energy; using low grades takes more. Our energy supply is stored energy too. That stored energy also comes in grades. As time goes on, we are forced to use ever declining grades of stored energy, to concentrate and harness declining grades of materials into new wealth. That means that the amount of energy needed to make a fixed amount of physical wealth from raw materials must gradually creep up as resource availability declines. Trouble is, as the fuel grade is depleting too, the unit cost of energy increases, even as we need more and more of it to concentrate other declining resources. This implies that at some point, human society will face rapidly declining levels of wealth generation as it hits planetary limits. Because all sets of resources are becoming scarcer simultaneously, the ultimate collapse in wealth will tend to hit people as a surprise. It is a non-linear effect.
This is why we are ultimately screwed as a technological society so long as we remain in a finite space. We have stayed ahead of the curve so far, because increasingly global reach has allowed us to continually access new resources. Globalisation has helped too, by locating energy intensive industry away from areas in which resources are already depleted. But these adaptations have reached their limits. I have continuously advocated nuclear power on this board because it is a cheap source of energy. If energy remains cheap, then even if other resource costs are increasing, cheap energy buys us time before reaching the final reckoning. The only way to escape the reckoning is to escape the finite space. Which is why I advocate space colonisation.

IEA Chief warns of world oil shortages by 2020 as discoveries fall to record lows
International Energy Agency says U.S. shale won’t fill the void which could lead to petroleum shortages
LONDON—Global oil discoveries fell to a record low in 2016, the International Energy Agency says, raising fresh concerns about the potential for a petroleum-supply shortage as soon as 2020.
Don’t expect output from U.S. shale producers to fill the void, the IEA said. American shale production is expected to grow by 2.3 million barrels a day or more over the next five years, but that isn’t enough to make up for declining output elsewhere.
The IEA also doesn’t expect global oil demand to stop growing any time soon, potentially turning the current glut of oil into a dearth.
The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries has also sounded the alarm over the potential for a looming supply gap in the long term. Saudi energy minister Khalid al-Falih told a London energy conference last year that “there will be a period of shortage of supply.”
Shale “is not enough by itself,” the IEA’s Mr. Birol said.

That is somewhat disingenuous Millimind. It suggests that being intelligent is a causative prerequisite of being left-wing in political outlook.
More likely I think is that intelligent people tend to be more exposed to the education system, which is dominated by Marxist types. The more intelligent a person is, the more intense the conditioning, as they remain in the left-wing institutions for longer. Academic people also tend to be more specialized in their fields, which interferes with their ability to see the big picture. When they leave academia, they then tend to go into leadership roles in industry, which requires them to fit in with the dominant culture and to virtue signal to confirm that they do.
That brings us neatly onto the whole problem of social interaction. People are more likely to condition themselves to believe and say, in public at least, what they think their peers want to hear. Sometimes if you want to get ahead, it becomes a necessity.
As an aside, there are also studies that suggest that conservatives tend to be more successful and wealthy people. They tend to be less sympathetic because they have not experienced so much hardship or sexual rejection. Lefties tend to be less physically attractive. They are drawn into left-wing idealism because it provides them with a psychological cushion and a means of fighting the perceived injustice that the world has inflicted upon them.
