On today’s doubleheader episode of Double Down, Max Keiser and Stacy Herbert talk to Chris Cook about the 2020 energy outlook.
As Saudi Arabia takes 1.5% of Saudi Aramco public, DOUBLE DOWN asks former energy market regulator, Chris Cook, whether or not this is the sign of peak oil. He says that, in fact, it is a sign of peak demand. There is an infinite amount of oil . . . at a price . . . but consumers cannot afford that price and alternatives are being found. Chris Cook expects that oil will never go much above $60 again for any length of time. Regarding the new QE which is not QE (‘Quantitative Easing’), he believes this is oil-related, the Fed is providing liquidity to monetize US shale reserves. Cook is saying that the US has essentially fixed the dollar against its shale reserves. Tune into Double Down to hear more on what Chris Cook has to say about his bold and radical predictions for energy markets in 2020.

We’re real screwed as it is, but Trump is making everything way worse. I won’t be surprised if we’re in a full blown civil war in 2020. At least that’s what I been planning for for two decades now. The collapse of America.

Davy, you are entitled to your rant. But could you please answer my question?
Do you think that it is acceptable for a brand new, expensive car to come off the production line with rust? Is it a hard question?
Do you want more proof about the decline of quality manufacturing in the US? Did you know that the FAA lowered its stringent standards to grant airworthiness to the B787?
I am not cherry-picking, to which you seem to have an obsession. I am talking about things I know of. Not unlike you talking about goats.
Please answer my question David?

“NASA’s X-59 Quiet SuperSonic Technology (QueSST) plane has been cleared for large scale assembly, said a NASA press release, dated Dec. 12. NASA will build the X-59 in partnership with Lockheed Martin and start test flights in 2021. The goal of the flights is to reduce the noise a sonic boom makes to a sonic thump, or basically as loud as a car door. Tests are expected to occur over major US metro areas as the X-59 cruises at 940 mph at 55,000 feet. The X-59’s long, slender design will allow it to reduce the loudness of a sonic boom to that of a gentle thump. “This aircraft has the potential to transform aviation in the United States and around the world by making faster-than-sound air travel overland possible for everyone,” NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine recently said. “We can’t wait to see this bird fly!” The X-59 will cost about $250 million to construct, Lockheed Martin’s Skunk Works factory in Palmdale, California, will be responsible for the build.”

It’s been known for a long time that combining metals and salt water conducts electricity quite well. This has spurred the idea of research into whether the kinetic energy of moving salt water could be transformed into electricity. At its best, this electrokinetic effect can generate electricity with around 30 percent efficiency, much higher than solar panels. It occurred to scientists at Caltech and Northwestern that a really cheap and abundant metal to try would be iron rust. But not just any rust. Rusty metal at the junkyard has too thick and uneven a layer to use. The rust required needs to be an extremely thin evenly spread film made in a laboratory using a very high tech process called physical vapor deposition which creates films a just 10 nanometers thick, thousands of times thinner than a human hair.”

Now they warn that the world faces a “cascade” of abrupt shifts in the planet’s climate system, as global warming takes hold. “We might already have crossed the threshold for a cascade of inter-related tipping points,” they wrote in Nature. This “could trigger a shift in the state of the Earth system as a whole,” one of the authors, Will Steffen of the Australian National University in Canberra, told Yale Environment 360. Their biggest fear is for the future of the global ocean circulation system, which moves heat around the world and may dictate global climate. They say melting Greenland ice in a warmer Arctic has driven a key component of ocean circulation to a thousand-year low. Further decline, which would lead to a shift in heat distribution around the planet, could trigger forest collapse in the Amazon; cause near-permanent drought in Africa’s Sahel region; disrupt Asian monsoons; rapidly warm the Southern Ocean, which would cause a surge in global sea levels as the West Antarctic Ice Sheet disintegrates; and potentially shift the planet to a new climate regime they call “hothouse Earth.”

In contrast, biofuel feedstock production on marginally productive agricultural lands (3) and targeted landscape placement (11, 12) have been identified as strategies that avoid the food-versus-fuel conflict while conferring climate mitigation and other ecosystem service benefits (6–9)… In recent years, cropland expansion in the U.S. Central Plains region has occurred most rapidly on land less suitable for cultivation (20), foreshadowing increases in land-use competition between annual row crops and future bioenergy grass production on marginally productive land (3, 20). Transition of marginal lands from intensively managed annual row crop systems to dedicated perennial cellulosic production systems, however, is expected to yield greater climate benefits through fossil fuel offsets, gains in soil organic carbon (SOC), and avoided greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions”

Davy on Thu, 19th Dec 2019 7:35 am
cloggo, I posted this to a different site and give it t you here for review of what REAL Green is:
I live in the Ozarks of Missouri and I am serious about low carbon living in a hybrid way. I have a permaculture multispecies intensive grazing operation of cattle, goats, and dogs. In effect I am harvesting solar energy from pasture to animal but I do it with low stocking rate so this is not energy intensive industrial type ag. I have chickens, garden, grapes, and orchard to supplement my food budget. I raise hay with low horsepower equipment with a 30hp tractor and mini bailer. I am hoping for an electric tractor someday I can charge with solar but nothing is economically available at the moment. I have a hybrid on/off grid system with batteries, 3600 watts pwr, and transfer switches. I have a generator also. I have a wood lot I sustainably harvest wood. I have a GS100 Heat master gasifies wood boiler. Solar can run the boiler and pump so it can be considered off grid. I have a Clydesdale indoor woodstove insert in the fireplace with a blower. The wood boiler has 3 systems. One preheats water for water heater but I can also use it to directly heat water and bypass water heater. The other system is a forced air circuit utilizing an air handler with radiator like an a/c unit has. I have a radiant heat from water to air convection. In the summer I use the wood boiler pump and tank as the supply system for my thermal solar heating of water. I have electric heat as backup with 5000 watt garage type heater, low wattage ceramic panels, and small fan driven room heaters. I also have a Daiken mini split ac/heater that is inverter technology. I can run this off the solar system. It provides efficient heat in a temp range above freezing. It provides excellent cooling in the summer that can be zoned. The house I have is a split level so I have the downstairs utilizing thermal mass for heating and cooling. The house has maximum insulation I could get with foam both open cell and closed cell.
I know this feed is about wood but I wanted to show how a system of thermal devices can provide heating, cooling and power. A point I want to make is currently with power so cheap relatively, an all-electric house with good efficiencies is economically cheaper. Where I excel is deeper value with resilience and sustainability. I also have security of supply from grid down situations.
I take wood seriously and enjoy harvesting wood energy but it is not cheap when you consider equipment cost and labor. It is something I can harvest locally and my realgreenadaptation.blog is about hybrid living based upon localism. I have a lot of money invested in these systems and it requires me to be here on the farm full time. The fact that it is expensive and requires me here full time eliminates this application for many. I realize this but I will add there are many who have the money and time and they should do it if they care about the planet and their local.
I especially admire those whose live simply and close to the land without all my gadgets. If I were younger and didn’t have the family and friends I do I would love to live that way. Simple cabin with woodstove for heat and cooking is a lovely life. I did it way back in my 30’s for a few years. I am 50’s now and comforts are needed. Family is not up to the raw living. I do live a tough life because farming is hard on the body and the mind. Lots of repetitive tasks to achieve rewarding results. Lots of failures and tough weather constantly try to beat you down. The point I am making here is wood is essential to my overall effort but it is not cheap. Electric is cheaper when all is said and done in my application. That changes when you choose to go low carbon and local for spiritual reasons. This represents superior value of green prepping.
I chose to go hybrid with old and new technologies because that is how I can make low carbon local based living work in this status quo world of modernism. I take the best of the modern and combine it with the best of the old ways. I do this with the motivation to leave the status quo as much as possible towards a life that is local orientated in self-sufficiency. I understand that to survive you have to maintain the connections to the status quo. My investments pay for my life. My farm operation covers its cost but it does not pay me. If I had to live off the farm, I would have to drastically lower my living standards. I could do that but my family and friends wouldn’t so what would result is dysfunction. I choose to do what I can for the planet and my local in realism to the carbon trap and path dependencies I am trapped in.

“Skyrocketing Costs Will Pop All The Bubbles”
https://tinyurl.com/und37zo Charles hugh smith
“We’ve used a simple trick to keep the status quo from imploding for the past 11 years: borrow whatever it takes to keep paying the skyrocketing costs for housing, healthcare, college, childcare, government, permanent wars and so on. The trick has worked because central banks pushed interest rates to zero, lowering the costs of borrowing more as costs continued spiraling higher. But that trick has been used up. The next step–negative interest rates–has failed to spark the “growth” required to pay for insanely overpriced housing, healthcare, college, childcare, government, etc. We’ve reached the end of the line on lowering interest rates as a way of borrowing more to keep our heads above water. We’ve reached the point where households and enterprises can’t even afford the principle payments, i.e. no interest at all. How are banks supposed to make money at zero interest rates? By charging outrageous overdraft fees and offering marginally qualified borrowers sky-high credit cards, and getting in on the federally guaranteed mortgage/student loan racket, that’s how. The point here is the discipline of rising costs has been destroyed by easy money. Take higher education as an example. If there was no federally backed student loan “industry,” universities would have been forced to innovate 20 years ago to lower costs and improve the market value of their “product.”

“Mitch McConnell: House Dems are ‘Afraid to…Transmit their Shoddy Work Product to the Senate”

“It was the ‘most rushed, least thorough, and most unfair’ impeachment inquiry in modern history’ conducted by House Democrats, according to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) who spoke on the Senate floor Thursday. McConnell slammed the Democratic prosecutors, specifically House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), for their ‘shoddy work product’ to charge the President with abuse of power and obstruction of congress saying she is newly apprehensive to bring the charges to the Senate where a trial is expected. “When speaker Pelosi suggested that House Democrats may be too afraid to even transmit their shoddy work product to the Senate. Mr. President, it looks like the prosecutors are getting cold feet in front of the entire country and second guessing whether they even want to go to trial,” McConnell said. The House voted late Wednesday to impeach President Donald Trump on the two charges. However, McConnell said, those charges show no evidence of a crime committed by the President. “If the Speaker ever gets her house in order, that mess will be dumped over here on the Senate’s lap. If the Senate blesses this slap dash impeachment. If we say that ‘from now on this is enough,’ then we invite an endless parade of impeachable trials,’ he said. Further, McConnell slammed the partisan process saying anger will now be the motivation for future trials and that impeachment will become a regular event. He said it signals that 130 years of adherence to constitutional procedure is over.”
