What Americans Know

Unread postby PenultimateManStanding » Wed 30 Aug 2006, 21:13:53

We know that we use 25 per cent of the worlds energy, We also produce 25 per cent of the worlds GDP. We are out on a limb, as Kunstler says. So many economies rely upon us. The truth is that the human race is out on a limb. I believe in my heart that many people around the world love America. We have those folks who would contradict that, but they don't dissuade me. The problem is that we delivered a vision that we can't back up because of ecology. America was the land of promise, but promise is meeting a brick wall: nature.

We love America. We despise and detest the current inhabitants, their leaders, their behaviour, their attitude, their arrogance and their ignorance.

But most of all we hate the fact that even as we hate them more and more they don't get the message through their thick skulls that we hate you.

Internationally, the Americans who opposed the war, work to better the world --and better yet, understand it, are admired. The rest are viewed with complete withering contempt. There is nothing quite so curious and appalling as a junk food addled, fat and stupid person, telling you how to run your country or your life.

Go to any airport in Europe and play "spot the American". They don't walk, they shuffle. Many of them are mouth breathers and many more are morbidly obese and nearly all of them are wearing jogging suits and sneakers, which in Europe, resemble pajamas. The most notable thing though, is the expression on their faces--a mixture of bovine complacency and mild confusion.

This is the international face the ignorant type of American presents to the world. When foreigners watch your abyssmal television shows, think of how the international community's respect level plummets.

So hear this, you ignoramuses want some respect? Close your mouth, lose some weight, quit shuffling, and don't wear pajamas in public.

We're birthing a new era in literature. The natural follow on to the culture that finds a cross in a cup of pee to be artistic.

Threadbear,

As usual your hatred clouds your vision. While some of what you say is true, there are plenty of us left who are in great shape, we walk upright, and possess plenty of smarts. We know whats going on around the world and grasp the sickness of the politics in our country. We don't wear pajamas and we can kick the ass of most of the folks we run into.

I find your characterizations to be rather childish at best.

The USA is still the only place I'd like to be when the SHTF and I've been around. The bottom line is that even though we are f--ked more so than a lot of places, where we end up will be better than most. It's the level at which you start that determines how far you sink.

It's good to see your passion, but a lot of times I think it blinds you. For someone obviuosly as smart as you, I find it anomalous that you harbor such deep hatred. It doesn't become you.

The place most people would like to be is 'home', that is assuming some arrogant neighbour has not turned them into a refugee.

The next thing they would like is their home to be 'unoccupied'.

True. Which means that people that have a somewhat elastic definition of "home" are at an advantage over everybody else.

There's never been anything like the global enmity we're seeing now after six years of Neocon rule. Imagine what it will be like if we somehow replace BushCo with a bunch that's even further out than they are...

Problem is that the belief in your heart doesn't count as much as the public opinion polls and the international press, and boy does the world love America...

[web]http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8324290/[/web]

Admittedly, the despise notably increased after Bush's second election:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'E')ngland's The Daily Mirror captured the feelings of most of the world and about half of the United States in its front-page headline the Thursday after the election. "How can 59,054,087 people be so DUMB?'' was sprawled across one of the dopier pictures of Bush with a subhead that read "U.S. election disaster."

Continuing with the trend, another British periodical called The Independent headlined its the front page with "Four more years'' over a black page with bleak pictures including a Iraqi prisoners and detainees from Guantanamo Bay. The Guardian also featured a black page with the words "Oh, God'' written on it. Inside, a story described the effects of Bush's first victory and how it "catapulted liberal Britain into collective depression.''

An article in the same paper called the election “a world election in which the world has no vote,” stating that "four more years of Bush can confirm millions of Muslims in a self-defeating phobia against the west, Europe in hostility to America and the U.S. on the path to fiscal ruin. Four more years, and the Beijing Olympics will see ascending China dictating its terms to a divided world."

Following in England's footsteps, Germany's Tageszeitung newspaper read "Oops—they did it again” on its front page. On the cover of a Swiss newsmagazine called Facts, Bush's re-election was deemed "Europe's Nightmare." Finally, L'Hebdo, another Swiss weekly, headlined "Victory for the hothead: How far will he go?"

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'G')lobal Market Insite did a poll among citizens of various international countries to see where their vote would lie if they had a say in the election. Canada gave Bush the most votes with 25 percent. In the UK, he would have received 21 percent of the vote. In China, Japan and Russia, Bush polls at 15 percent, but in France and Germany, Bush doesn't make it past the 5-percent mark.

Britain is facing an obesity crisis, with fresh government data warning that a nearly one in three adults in England will be dangerously overweight by 2010.

In a report titled "Forecasting Obesity to 2010", the Department of Health anticipated that 12 million adults will be obese -- or too heavy for their height and sex -- within four years.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060818/hl_ ... obesity_dc
Nearly one in every five people in China are overweight or obese and the problem is getting worse among children, especially boys, according to a study.

The study, to be published in the August 19 issue of the British Medical Journal, found that 10 million children from the ages of 7 to 18 were overweight in 2000, up 28 times from 1985.

Four million children were obese in that same age group in 2000, four times more than in 1985.

Japan weighs growing obesity problem
As Japanese men increasingly worry about their expanding waistlines, a new line of girdles for gents is quickly becoming the new fashion accessory bestseller.

In a nation that has only recently engaged in the fight against flab, many middle age men are braving the department stores for a cure, albeit a cosmetic one.

Health experts have long been warning about increasing obesity rates in Germany. Now, it seems they've found another factor besides diet and exercise that contributes to the average German citizen's weight -- location. More than half of the people living in eastern Germany are overweight, according to the statistics office in the western state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

http://www.annecollins.com/weight_healt ... tralia.htm
Recent studies show that 47% of women and 63% of men are overweight or obese. Australians are at the point where it is almost more "normal" to have a weight problem than not.

Over the last decade as a nation we have continued to gain weight. If the current trend continues, it is estimated that by 2010, 70% of Australians will be above their healthy weight range.
