Tired of talking...

Unread postby Stratovarius » Mon 15 Sep 2008, 19:26:27

Clarification: I'm f*king fed up with talking. Also this forum really pisses me off and the people in it.

So, I dunno what I'm doing here. I just realized, "Wow, my life is a piece of s*t."

I don't know what to say. Maybe tomorrow, I'll actually get something done. I have no idea what the hell it's going to be, but it's going to be something. Or maybe I'll really sit down and think long and hard. Write some options down, the tertiary steps to achieve some long-term goals, and start doing them. The day after that, I will also do something, and the day after that.

I also need to have a long talk with my dad. I think I'll do that writing down the options thing, and tell him what I want to do. He'll get angry certainly at first...but it's fine. Maybe if I just man up and be cool with him, he'll respond in the same way with time. I just need to get it in his head that I'm not a small child then maybe he'll stop treating me like one.

He might actually like the idea of me working in the oil industry. I just found out how much these people make and he would be fine with that. I think he's just worried I'll become another financial burden. He's also narcissistic and unfortunately I can't do anything about that major character flaw of his. He doesn't want me doing something (or not doing something) that would be embarrassing to tell his friends or whatever. I can't do s*t about this. I'll just have to ignore it the best I can.

If all else fails and he wants to pick a fight with me. Oh well, I'll push him aside the best I can.

Everyone on this forum is wrong. I can do this. Watch me.

This forum is wasting my precious time and I think I'm going to cull the computer as much as possible. A pathetic problem of mine, but it's a problem nonetheless that needs to be fixed. No use hiding it.

Anyway, any last words for me? Any other shitty remarks that don't really help me at all? Any trolling? Or maybe you actually have something enlightening to say considering 90% of the things said in this forum are stupid anyway. You guys suck. I really wish half the people on this forum were dead.

Here's something no ones talked about to me yet: Any idea what kind of specific trade I could learn? I'm interested. I don't know what I could possibly do though. I'm willing to learn anything if I like it and it's not going to become useless in the future.

If anyone cares, I'm still looking for an entry level job that doesn't require anything in the oil industry. Manual labor preferably but if it's being a paper-pusher or something that's fine I guess. Doubt they got any jobs like that for me anyway. I just need a little money to start me off. That's what I'm looking for.

Also, I got a WWOOF directory coming in soon for those organic farms that offer apprenticeships.

I'll have an update if anything big happens. Like me actually doing something.

Yes indeed there comes a time after all this talk that action is required.

The oil industry is going to provide employment for quite some time yet.
We are after all an oil based society with no real alternative being implemented yet. I see no issue with this. There may come a point where oil employment could be unstable but not for a while. As things stand now, this industry may be the last to go belly up.

No matter what you do and where you go, the rules are changing, whether you accept PO or not.

There is also no reason why you can't apply what you know and prepare for what has been suggested on this website. Choices of where to live and what you spend your money on can have a big impact.

As for a trade, I suggest carpentry. Our whole system will have to be retooled. I would suggest good wood workers who can think in a post PO world will be in high demand. The ability to think things through and create an object/service that we already have but with materials that are right in front of you and tools in your hand. Carpenters also are very mobile as their tools of trade are relatively small. The most important tool of all is between your ears.

I wish you luck with what ever you decide to do.

Kind Regards

Dr Bang

Your basic entry level worker on an oil rig is called a roughneck

Image

If hired, you'd spend your day moving pipe and attaching chains and taking orders from the "tool-pusher" (i.e. the guy who runs the rig). You work really hard but you make decent money, especially if you are living at a remote drill site where food and housing are provided by the employer.

It can be dangerous. People get bashed in the head by the pipe or worse. One tool-pusher I knew had just a bone sticking out where his index finger should've been....got it caught in a chain.

Still, its honest work. :)

Yea, the talk does get to be a distraction.

Do your thing, then once in a while, post up your hits as well as your misses so we may all learn.

Good Luck.

In Australia you can learn woodwork/carpentry several ways. Yous could do a full trade although this would be based around power tools and goods that require transport from far away. A full trade also takes several years.

You could also go and do a night school course. Set it up as a hobby to make things out of wood (stuff you find) with a limited set of tools (hand only?). Make it fun and enjoy it.

This could be done in parallel to your day job. Picking a day job in the current environment will be tough but if you are prepared to work and be flexible you will do fine.

Hi ya Strat,

History Channel had a program about roughnecks called "Black Gold." Look up "roughneck" on YouTube or Google Video if you want to see what you're getting into. 'Taint for slackers.

I've occasionally sworn off forums too. Now restrict reading/posting to breakfast/post dinner, unless there's a hurricane tearing apart Galveston or something. Read a book called the Good Life, about a couple that homesteaded in rural Vermont in the Depression. They'd only work about 4 hours a day, but went about their chores in a really organized fashion, always hung up their tools in the same place for instance, and as a result did the same amount of work that took less disciplined people all day to accomplish. Same principles apply to any endeavor, including messing around on the Internet.
Cogito, ergo non satis bibivi
And let me tell you something: I dig your work.

They also make between$43k - $47k.

I saw on Black Gold where worms in West Texas started out at $70k.

$70,000 for someone who doesn't have a degree. Its crazy.

I just wish you would stop commenting on my father and I. You don't know anything about our relationship much less my family. I'm sorry but you cross the line every time you talk about us. Sure my dad doesn't touch me anymore because I got old enough and started working out so now he's afraid of me, but that doesn't undo the shit he's done to my family as a whole in the past. You're just some stranger over the internet but I still get really pissed off when you talk about my family like that.

"He's got much more goin' for him than most kids..." Right. I'd take poverty and a complete lack of education over this bullshit. You said you had a son my age right? Even though you sound annoying, I bet you actually treat your son a lot better than my dad treats anyone in this family.

And no my dad doesn't want to whip some sense into me or whatever. He whips everyone because he believes he can just whip people into loving and respecting. He's a broken man and I have 0 faith in him. Maybe you are actually lucky enough to have a real family I'm going to turn this around and say that you actually have a lot more going for you than me. And this goes for everyone on this site that actually has a supportive family that criticizes me. You have no clue until you actually experience it yourself year after year ever since you were a small child. Do you have any clue what sort of shit I had to go through when I still could barely use the toilet on my own? Lol.

I wish everyone would shut the hell up about my family and me being a pussy. You can't pass judgment fairly like that. You're all wrong.

Thanks for your kind remarks. I've generally been kind and supportive of my kids, except maybe the time I told my Volleyball daughter when she was little that I was going to take her up to the mountains and leave her in the forest. I was only kidding but she looked scared. I had to backtrack really fast and tell her I would never do that. I'm sorry if your dad was cruel. Nothing I can do about that. You'll have to sort it out.

You should respect your father, and treat him correctly, he is your father, if you can't do this you aint no man you are a boy.

Boys can't make it in the world they go around with a chip on their shoulders and they will die miserable, course if that is what you want go ahead.

And
I have a right to warn you how to have a relationship.
Now you can't do it yourself, you will need help, that is where prayer comes in. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.

Most people will reject the truth and die. It dont matter how you die once your dead, but I would rather not.

Oh, and I am not wrong, you are. I have been there. and when you learn to love your enemies then you can be happy otherwise, you will never be happy

very simple.

have a nice life
or not
your choice.

From your post you are definitely not happy and it is only your fault. change and be repsectful of your parents and live long and prosper and forgive them, or die young and miserable these are your only two choices.

see kid? I'm one of your friends. It's these other folks calling you a pussy loser, though I think you are the only one to use those terms. Take it from me, it's one of life's big issues at around 18-19 to forgive one's parents. They are stupid and ignorant. Hopefully they tried their best. You can't hold on to resentment. You'll gain a whole lot of ground if you can let go of it. Not that it will do you any good, you'll be dead within ten years anyway.
