The WHO released a report in 2003 that claimed American per capita sugar use had increased 2400% over the last century. It also drew links between sugar and diabetes (I know, big shock), but the American Sugar Association spread some money around Washington and Washington threatened to withdraw it's $400,000,000/year support for the WHO.

Now how will you react to this:
A) Rush out and buy more stocks of sugar (and help bring on a shortage)
B) buy as you normally would
C) Reduce your consumption (and cost) to help avoid a shortage

How about,
D) Reduce your consumption to help avoid obesity, heart disease and diabetes?

In health terms, only to a spike in tobacco prices could possibly be more helpful.

Yes you are correct - This is reminds me of an image that has struck me (this is from the Bible, but I would need to look it up to find where exactly it is) when the image of "clean teeth" is used to illustrate famine - maybe we will look forward to a time with
"no cavities" meaning no sugar is available.

Tyler is also correct about Government's heavy hand - I would have expected the numerous people in this forum who find Obama far to the left for their liking, to be consistant in the application of their principles, and to jump in and shout for "Free Trade".
