$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('frankthetank', 'I') got a problem with scooters. A lot of the people on them (high school/young adults) should be on f-in bicycles, not motorized scooters. Jesus kids have become lazy.
I'm all for commuting on them. I can't wait until the Scooter Interstate Act of 2009 opens the shoulder of interstates to scooter travel.
Seriously...at some point these are going to be peoples sole source of transportation. At least until the time comes that the pumps run dry.
Just to put in perspective...a bicycle ridden by a human gets the equivalent of 1000mpg...
My 150cc scooter is freeway legal on all lanes in Oregon. No restrictions whatsoever. 55 mph top speed. I've been on all the local freeways at one time or another since I bought it a few years back.
I used to get 85 to 90 mpg, but now it's 80 at best since we started crop burning. Small scooters are the greatest and so are high mileage motorcycles such as the 250 cc Kawasaki Ninja. But many larger scooters get about the same mileage as a carefully driven Civic, so choose with high mileage in mind. There's no excuse. They're fairly inexpensive if you buy low miles used, which are common.
Note: I suspect the type of scooters some of you are thinking about are the stand-up types, like a skateboard with handlebars and a tiny engine or motor, and they might be treated differently because they are quite different yet are called 'scooter' too.
