PTSD and various other maladies of recall are supposed to be about getting "stuck in a loop" with regards to said memories. I'd seen research lately that administration of a drug for a few days after a traumatic event could prevent the "etching" into memory. Retroactively, though... This could be a boon for tens of thousands of people.
IMHO, taking away the memory of the path doesn't lessen who you are. You are a product of your past even if you cannot remember it. What changes is your past's hold on you, which could definitely change who you are in the future.
