Bush cries over The Onion

Unread postby savethehumans » Thu 27 Oct 2005, 00:52:11

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'W')ASHINGTON (Reuters) - The White House is not amused by The Onion, a newspaper that often spoofs the Bush administration, and has asked it to stop using the presidential seal on its Web site.

Awwwww. . .is little Bushy-whooshy :x that his seal-weel is being used to mocky-wocky him?

Or is it just that The Onion does a better job of making a joke out of his Presidency than HE does?

I just hope that Bush gets to hear some of their stuff. He is far too insulated from his country and people. but crying? that's waht you would expect from an untreated alcoholic.

I'm not as big a detractor of 'Bushy-whooshy' as some here, but this is funny-wunny in a silly-willy way. "mocky-wocky" heh, heh. The Onion is good fun.

Can you post a link to this article? I can't find it. The snippet you posted sure doesn't say anything like what you are gloating about. It says the White House doesn't like the onion and has asked them to quit using the Presidential Seal. The little bit in between is a description of the Onion.

If it said:
The White House doesn't like the onion, a commie rag which espouses violent revolution, and has asked them to quit using the Presidential Seal.

It would mean the same thing. They want them to quit using the seal. I'm begining to get a better understanding of liberals, they can't read or if they can read they fail to comprehend.

On a different note I have some nice 1/2 inch wide note pads for sale.

I don't read The Onion too often, but it usually just seems like a satire site, good for a laugh.

I know what the Onion is.My point is that nothing in the intial post said anything other than the White House wanted them to stop using the Presidential seal. Reread my first post slowly, it's alright to move you lips if you need to.

Yeah, yeah: "if it said. . ." I got it the first time. Your point still misses what the thread is about: The White House doesn't want them to use the seal, hence the joke about them complaining. There's nothing else going on, spar with you later.

Ouch, the Onion writers did it again

Unread postby Twilight » Fri 13 Jul 2007, 15:31:40

Might have been posted here last year, in which case here it is again.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('The Onion', 'A')s we move into the 21st century, it is our responsibility to think of the future of the earth—not for ourselves, but for those who will inherit what my husband and I leave behind when we're gone. If we do not join together and do what's best for this, our only planet, there may not be an environment left in which my five children, and their 25 children's 125 children, can grow up and raise large upper-middle-class families of their own.

Nothing less than the preservation of my descendents' lifestyle itself is at stake.

. . .

My children are the future. And at the end of the day, isn't it family—my family—that truly matters?

We Must Preserve the Earth's Dwindling Resources for My Five Children

Cuts pretty close to the bone, huh?

Yet a couple of weeks ago, I heard some guest on BBC radio making that very argument in all seriousness.

EDIT: Should have posted in Open Discussion, oops. Please move.

The average upper/middle class white American (the bulk of the US population) typically has less than 2 children in their lifetime. White liberals have even less, which yes may be a God send, but bottom line is 2.1 children is necessary for each couple to grow a population, the current level is below replacement level for the population which means that portion of the population will shrink. The only way to make up for the population loss is through immigration. So basically these people are just being replaced by immigrants. It sounds like the article was written by someone who doesn't have a clue about current demographic trends.

So basically if you want to shrink the US population the only way to do it is to stop immigration and immigrants from being so fertile since Americans, mainly whites, aren't having enough children to replace themselves. Of course the rest of the (mostly undeveloped) world's total population is still booming. It has nothing to do with middle/upper class Americans having children but with immigration, at least for the US.

It's ironic that you (presumably) see Latinos as immigrants on a continent that gave birth to the red man, not white.

When are you fellows going to reconcile yourselves with the indigenous reality of your adopted continent as we have done in New Zealand...perhaps never if you are anything to go by.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I') don't want my 625-odd great-grandchildren to have to wait 20 or 30 precious seconds for their toilets to flush. I don't want their 3,125 children to live in a hellish society where they cannot own their own snowmobiles. And I shudder to think that my 15,625 great-great-great-grandchildren may not be able to have TVs in every room that they can leave on all day and all night.

What a gem!

Although the article was written from the US perspective, demographic trends in the US alone are irrelevant. This applies to the world, not the US.

I wholeheartedly disagree.

In the future, travel will become more difficult and more expensive.

Meaning, total immigration will likely decrease.

Countries like New Zealand may see a dramatic decline in immigration.

It is entirely possible for New Zealand's population to level out and decline without having to worry about foreigners "overrunning" their country.

I don't understand why people who believe that transportation fuel is going to run out also believe that sustainable countries will be overrun by refugees from non-sustainable countries.

How will they get from point A to point B, walking?

As for the United States, we have a large and formidable ocean on either side of the country. Canada has a small and slowly growing population (also as a result of immigration).

So the only border we have to worry about is Mexico.

It is certainly possible that a nationalist president of the USA will demand action to stop illegal immigration from Mexico, especially if the US population is suffering from the results of economic recession.

In that scenario, the only demographic trends that should worry Americans are the demographic trends that are occuring inside the United States itself.

Let Ethiopia double in population every 20 years. It just doesn't matter if they can only stay inside Ethiopia.

Allow me to point out what apparently isn't obvious or well known: The Onion is satirical.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he Onion is an award-winning, US-based, parody newspaper published weekly in print and daily online.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I')f we don't take action now, my daughters Kimmy and Jenna may not be able to blow-dry their hair for 45 minutes to an hour each morning, nor may my future sons-in-law cut their grass atop enormous, diesel-powered riding mowers. In fact, they may not even have lawns—at least not the lush, verdant kind that requires constant watering and pesticide treatment. It's conceivable that one day my five children's spacious yards may be entirely composed of synthetic Astroturf, or—God forbid—those tacky wood chips my sister in Arizona uses.

In a cruel irony, those wood chippings will get more expensive as the world's timber supply continues to shrink.

I can imagine calling up Lars Larson or Rush and reading some of that verbatim. Makes me think of the guy who called up Art Bell while they were discussing the chupacabra, whose name means "goat sucker." The caller wanted Art to know about another legendary Mexican monster, the chupamartillo (I think). Art was quite intrigued, but seriously pissed after the next commercial break. Seems "chupamartillo" means "dick sucker."

There's a thriving sub-culture of anti-consumerism in New Zealand which incidentally is increasingly embracing the old indigenous ways.

The trouble with you American fellows is that you've never really taken the American continent to heart, including the old ways that the land has spontaneously thrown up.

If you can see your way to wean yourselves off Mother Europe, you may well find the post peak scenario quite a refreshingly adaptable challenge.
