It will be the US that decides the shape of the post peak oil world. It uses more energy then anyone, it has more political clout then anybody else, the biggest economy and more military might.

The US has the power to save the earth or destroy it.

If they are selfish and decide that their lifestyle is more important than the fate of the rest of the planet then we are all screwed.

On the otherhand if they deside to sacrifice their high standard of living and ... who am I kidding ... we're screwed.

I think you would have to add the EU, China and India (if they take off) to that list too.

You doomers are so funny. 19th century flint-lock rifles? Concrete windowless apartments? Oh wait, no concrete apartments for real doomers after all.
You completely discount the technological advancements we have made, especially in the last 50 years.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('smiley', '[')b]Population control. ....

migration ....

Densification ...

I'd hardly consider the options you listed as high-tech. Instead they seem more like liberal big government programs that will supposedly save humanity.

I have this theory that most things in life are based on the concept of win-lose. Basically it's simply a conversion...you lose something to gain something.

It is my observation that a "high tech" solution is simply a system where you gain efficiency in human labor at the expense of burning much more energy. For example "modern farming" allows 1 farmer to produce enough food for 50 people where as for example in ancient Egypt the ratio was about 1 to 5.

But of course these "modern" techniques requires lots of fossil fuels==energy. There was no net gain per say with modern agriculture. We simply burned more energy to become more efficient with human labor.

my 2 cents
