This technology is amazing and scary as hell.

1. Is this via satellite?
2. Is this a live real-time view? Meaning, is it a current snapshot of the address or is it an old image or ? Is it a picture or video?

It is done with a vehicle that actually drives down the roads with a camera that captures a 360 degree view.

notice the complete and total lack of cameras in Canada? It appears our privacy laws as weak as they are are still good enough to stop this.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Shannymara', 'Y')et another reason to avoid living in a big city. Of course I'm sure those blue globs will keep expanding, like tumors.

Yeah thats what I thought too Shanny, but then I found they had already driven by my place and even on some of the crappy dirt roads around near me. At least not much can be seen of my place but trees.... :-D

creepy.

I do have to admit that this is pretty funny. I've already checked out my house....good thing I was smart (and lucky enough) to buy a house that's set far back from the street. :-D

Even at full zoom, you really can't see much detail of the house, and although you can see my car in the carport, you can't really tell what make it is, etc.

This is pretty scary, though, huh? I wonder if the Google Streets cars are marked when they drive around shooting all these images...?

I've been on the lookout for the Google camera van. If I catch it, I plan to moon it so as to preserve an image of my fat ass for future generations.

Silly thought: Wouldn't it be funny if the pictures were to be used for governmental entities in the future because schools no longer taught reading and writing, therefore the citizenry was illiterate?

Why is this a big deal privacy wise? People drive in the blue places ALL THE TIME and any one of them could take a picture. And not blur out your faces and license plates.

Another way to visit neighborhoods you would never normally drive into.

Impressive :-)

Finland is now included in Google Street View. It's amazing how many of the remote villages in the countryside have been photographed.

The coverage locales info for the Wikipedia page on GSV is faithfully updated, I see. Just today they've also thrown in the 2010 Winter Olympic Games Venues, roads in Alaska, various remote spots in Canada. You can't hide!

When it first mapped our area, we would zoom into the crappy part of town to see who could find the most crack whores on the street corners,,, I won, I found 3. :)

Not a fan of this overall. Glad the new house is up hill and 600 feet off the road.

I can never express my full gratitude for the movie Deliverance, and the impression it makes on city folk...

Evidently, the street view guys never made it past the connector near my house or any of the other backroads in the area...

They must've heard the banjos a playin' and had visions of them being Ned Beatty as portrayed in the movie. Or they saw this kid sitting in a rocking chair in front of the nearest store with some other people with lots of local color.

However the .gov does have the gps coordinates to my house. :(
