From my point of view, it's true that Obama energy strategy is really disappointing, especially when you consider that Chu really has the background knowledge and figures.
Of course this has to be highly balanced by him getting into office in a huge mess, but even then still disapointing, except maybe on the point of view that "it's way too late anyway, so why bother". But when you compare with Carter's speeches on Energy for instance, clearly Obama looks like "not caring that much" about the energy strategy. In this story it's really Reagan that fucked up completely, especially when you realize how he pushed the Saudis to increase their prod in order to put the USSR down (it cut their revenue by two third).

A few philosophical thoughts.

Does it have to be a "war", just because people don't have your belief system?

Is it reasonable to disparage a source one moment, and use it as a reference in the next? Based purely on whether or not your preconceived notions agree with their conclusions?

Is it fair to brand or stereotype an entire news organization based on a single, or even multiple, article's differences with your preconceived notions?

Is it possible that Fox News is actually bashing a subcomponent of "peakers", known to most of us as "doomers"?

Obama and Chu and the rest of the Obama administration haven't even figured out that the "huge mess" is caused by peak oil. Far from being an excuse for the Obama administration not having an energy policy, the "huge mess" is a big bright neon sign telling them they had better get a coherent energy policy together right now....but they are too busy borrowing money from China to prop up BAU to see it.

Fox News has declared war on itself. I wonder if they have any idea about peak oil? They don't even believe in climate change.

You say "climate change" the same way some people say "peak oil".

We attach some pretty big meanings to our words which aren't necessarily the same as the meanings someone else attaches.

For example, in peak oil, most peak oilers don't mean "maximum oil rate followed by a terminal decline" but often mean "peak oil means dieoff begins, people starve, world ends, won't that be grand" and then I get all torqued off sideways because I think of peak one way, and they the other.

Climate change? Belief isn't required, it is simple geologic fact. Its like saying, "people don't believe in peak oil"...of course they do, no one argues that oil must peak someday, not EIA, not IEA, not Yergin, not Lynch, they just don't buy into A) someone else's timing and B) the consequences.

Climate change is like that, anyone introduced to a geology course BELIEVES in climate change, they just don't necessarily attach a myriad of consequences which may, or may not, happen.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Arthur75', '

Don't forget that Carter was the architect of the Carter doctrine, which was the foundation upon which people like Bush and Cheney used to invade Iraq. So don't be too quick to heap praise on him.

Vote Republican!

http://www.sciliterature.50webs.com/OilShaleLinks.htm

The Democratic Party has opposed ANWR exploration, coal-to-liquids technology, oil shale exploration, outer continental shelf (OCS) exploration and increasing refinery capacity

Also, extra carbon dioxide is benificial to the environment. It helps plants grow faster.

I was watching the Fox News coverage of the Egyptian situation about an hour ago.

They had an oil analyst to comment whether this might be a problem for the United States.

The oil analyst then plainly said it shouldn't be a problem for the United States can "double it's domestic oil production tomorrow back up to the production levels of the year 1970!!!" He then when into a tirade about how President Obama is restricting domestic oil production.

Unfortunately, a lot of Fox News viewers might take that as truth.

Any time there is any story about the Mid East, they trot out John Bolton to say now we should bomb Iran.

Keep in mind that NewsCorps biggest are the Saudis, so Fox's coverage will reflect the goals of their Arab masters when it comes to Egypt.

Also, Rupert Murdoch is part owner of an arabic language network out of the UAE, so of course he hates Al Jazeera.

Basically you can expect Fox to be 100% supportive of dictatorships.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Revi', 'T')his is a very entertaining thread. You all know I am yanking your chain, don't you? I really don't think Fox News viewers are dumb. It's just another form of propaganda. The other news outlets have their slant as well. They treat us all like mushrooms. They feed us on horse manure and keep us in the dark.

I think a bigger % of people are more informed then ever because of the internet. Are you telling me that back in the era of the big 3 nightly news people were MORE informed?

Dick Morris is on Fox saying that the situation in Egypt is all Obama's fault.

Funny just a couple day ago Elliott Abrams was giving George Bush credit for Egypt, saying it vindicated W. .

I was listening to Fox radio's Stocks and Jocks and they were recommending some okay stuff, like TAN and other solar stocks. I guess all Fox news people aren't that dumb, even if they are on the republican side of things.

Weak Democratic president, fall of a middle east country, 1978, 2010. See any trends there?
Hopefully we won't have to repeat this for a third time for at least another 30 - 40 years.

Actually, two very strong and intelligent Democratic Presidents and the fall of right-wing dictatorships to populous revolutions. We could use a few more of those.

Why do you stay on this thread and keep proving it correct?

First time I've ever heard that two data points make up a trend? Then again you also forgot about Hamas winning a decisive majority rule in in the Palestinian Parliament during Bush's Presidency in 2006.
The things that will destroy America are prosperity-at-any-price, peace-at-any-price, safety-first instead of duty-first, the love of soft living, and the get-rich-quick theory of life.
