Oh this was funny. NASA Finds Underground 'City' Hidden 100 Feet Below Icy Surface
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'R')esearchers were shocked when their advanced radar technology picked up signs of human construction deep beneath the ice of the island territory’s tundra, according to the space agency. Camp Century, an abandoned Cold War-era military installation, was rediscovered 100 feet beneath the ice by a NASA Gulfstream III back in April
https://nypost.com/2024/11/27/world-new ... greenland/The funny thing is, it was never lost! I watched a video about it a few years ago, no more interesting than anything else the the US military did in the cold war and a lot shorter lived. So what is this hyperbole from NASA all about? It's about a broken down Government agency desperate for recognition as the rest of the World surpasses it in achievement. Look at us look at us, look what WE found!
When a nation makes a great achievement as Russia and America did with space flight people assume the glory will last forever, but it doesn't. I put Russia first of course because they actually led the way, they were first in space, first to put a man in space. Many here probably forgot that
What does it have to do with EV's? Everything. The EV "revolution" is no different, a massive spending of capital to achieve the beginnings (Beginnings) of something wholly unsustainable. Back when Apollo Astronauts were playing golf on the Moon people were chaffing at the bit for their turn. After all Mars colonies were promised, big orbiting stations, joy rides to the Moon. People really believed it would happen, well most people did... Anyone with a basic understanding of the cost and risks of space travel knew it was all Hoopla but no one listened to them, they were doomsayers, glass half empty types. No, to see reality we had to wait for the quiet death of the promised transition, wait long enough so that people pretended the promises were never made. Don't they still go into Space? Of course, for better nuclear target fixing and for faster transfer of internet pornography and gaming, better profits for a few in other words but not for the advancement of mankind, to build research bases etc. The ISS is an embarrassment compared to what was projected 65 years ago. It's space garbage waiting to fall out of Orbit.
As far as the EV in concerned there is now an embarrassed silence across the mainstream media, and at the office water-cooler too no doubt. The endless chatter about next years models, extended ranges, and the Holy grail, autonomous driving, has all but dried up. This series of threads is a good indicator of that process. All the 'positive' chatter about the future has boiled down to a few spurious statements about "Sales" still improving, but even if that's true, and I deny it is, but even so what are those sales? They are of Cheap-Arse Chinese timebombs being dumped across the Western nations. The PRC offloading their factory output as fast as they can, even as their showrooms burn to the ground with battery fires. Try putting that forward as a measure of success 5 years ago and you'd be laughed off the forums, Banned probably!
Every decade or two there is renewed chatter about The Martian Colony from the likes of NASA or a tech Guru. A cult of tech built up around Steve Jobs just as it has built up around Elon Muck, a blind belief that all the prophet says will surly come to pass. These people will always keep the conversation alive, in dusty little internet chat rooms. People find their gods anywhere they can, I've no doubt that many small wannabe entrepreneurs looked up in wonder at John Santora as he revolutionized inner city office access. Now at last they too can have an "office" on Wall street, just as they deserve. He was a Legend in their eyes, and if they took their meager profits and reinvested it into WeWork, they'd surely be set for life. I wonder how many did?

But even at it's best Wework was a terrible environment
https://www.reddit.com/r/WeWork/comment ... of_people/The wonder of it all is this predatory business model only exists in America as far as I can see. Down here we have much stronger regulation to protect the people of Australia form the machinations of grifters and hucksters like Musk and Santora. So what's the next scam to fool the masses? Is it a Mars mission venture? It's already well established of course, the AI mania. It's being integrated in every smart phone and all leading search engines, government servers too no doubt. A.I. the SciFi dream come true, at least for the men selling the crap and making all the profit. Profit from gullible consumers spending an extra $200 for it on their phones

We're 17 years past the peak now and the 3rd World is going hungry and dark. We'll be next, we're well on the way in fact.
