$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('MarkJ', 'W')e see many employment/income/credit/savings challenged households with food insecurity "not hunger" issues due to not working, working very little, milking unemployment extensions, overeating, voracious appetites, poor budgeting, poor meal planning, poor food storage, food waste, laziness, converting food stamps to cash etc.
Many of these households don't shop for price, don't buy in bulk, don't use coupons and waste incredible amounts of money on expensive convenience store food, take-out, delivery, fast-food, restaurant meals, chips, candy, soda, energy drinks, snack cakes, cable television, big screen TVs, cell phones, pre-paid minutes, high speed internet, rent-to-own furniture/appliances/electronics, cigarettes, beer, liquor, lottery tickets, scratch-off tickets, taxis, tattoos, jewelry, tanning, clothes, footwear, pets, pet food...
Many of these households are out-of-shape and obese due to overeating, sedentary lifestyles, lack of exercise and consumption of high sugar/high fat foods. Their poor physical health and appearance also limits their job opportunities.
Laziness and lack of discipline are major issues. Many residents without transportation are too lazy to walk, bike or take the transit to multiple grocery stores, so they'll blow their money on expensive convenience store food, take-out or delivery. Once they're in the convenience stores, they're likely to buy beer, cigarettes, lottery tickets, scratch-off tickets, soda, snacks, milkshakes, ice cream and other impulse purchases.
Since many people are too lazy to budget, plan, prepare and store meals, they tend to buy canned, microwavable and prepared foods. They'll buy garbage like SPAM or pre-packaged sandwich meats which are more expensive than boneless chicken breast, plus they'll but these items at convenience stores where they're often 50 plus percent more than in grocery stores.
Many of the low income apartments, slumlord rentals, rooms, studio apartments etc lack refrigerators, stoves (or functional refrigerators/stoves), so the tenants have limited food prep and storage options. This leads to incredible waste of money, food stamps, WIC, food bank and unused food.
+1
Some people just can't/don't know how eat anything that doesn't come in a box and has to be fried and they drink everything but water and eat meat at least twice a day. Even when poor they still don't get they have to change their food habits.
